Scenario partitioning strategies can provide tight bounds for chance-constrained problems, provided that effective methods are designed to pick the partitions. The latest work by @marius_roland and Alexandre Forel gives many mathematical insights to do so! #ORMS #Optimization

I'm very happy to announce my election as a Fellow of @INFORMS, which was formed the year I got my Ph.D! It's been great to "grow up" side-by-side and I am grateful for all the ways it has contributed to my own evolution as a researcher and a human. engineering.lehigh.edu/news/article/l…

Thanks to @LSELibrary and @LSEMaths a scanned copy of Ailsa Land's 1956 Ph.D. thesis is now available! It's a beautifully detailed description of a large-scale transportation model solved by hand. etheses.lse.ac.uk/4493/

In 2023, we once again selected 12 young women for OR. Let us introduce Conception Dominguez, who works on combinatorial optimization. Her motto is "doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will" - don't let doubt kill your dreams, Conception and all #yw4or!

My student sent me this interesting map of how languages in Europe say “ninety nine.” In English, ninety-nine = 90 + 9. This is the most common. But some do 9 + 90. Essentially, “nine ninety.” Or “4 x 20 + 19”. Or more! Europeans: is this map correct for your language?
