The BBC have today confirmed the date its Long Wave 198 kHz service will close is Saturday June 27th 2026. It is broadcast from sites at Droitwich, Burghead and Westerglen. BBC Radio 4 news said the time of closure will be at 00:00 GMT/UTC (01:00 BST) on Saturday June 27th.

BBC boosts transmissions to Iran. The BBC Persian service has added two more mediumwave (AM) frequencies for its radio broadcasts to Iran. The two new ones are 720 (from Cyprus) and 1296 (from Tajikistan). These are alongside the existing 702 (from Oman) and 1395 (from Armenia).

The BBC Persian service has revived shortwave & mediumwave transmissions. The best chance to reach audiences inside Iran is probably on MW. The BBC has hired a transmitter (on 1395 AM) in Armenia for the MW broadcasts. It is using its own station in Oman for the SW transmissions.

The Conservative leader of Sevenoaks District Council, Roddy Hogarth, has LOST a vote of no confidence tabled by former party colleagues who broke away in May to form the West Kent Independents. Many councillors failed to attend the vote. The council will now elect a new leader.
