@randallwcarlson So you’re saying a glass of water with 🧊 in it overflows when the ice melts? 🤔

Start with a single cubic mile of ice and convert it instantaneously to water. The flood that produces would be enormous by any human standard. Now multiply that by six million - the estimated volume of glacial ice sitting on the continental landmasses of North America and Eurasia at the peak of the last Ice Age. All of it is gone now. The question Randall Carlson forces is deceptively simple: how fast did it go? If that volume of ice melted gradually over 50,000 or 100,000 years, the resulting sea level rise and meltwater discharge would be spread thinly enough across time to look almost imperceptible in any given century. But if the same six million cubic miles of ice melted over three, four, or five thousand years - as the evidence increasingly suggests - the implications are categorically different. The meltwater pulses, the catastrophic floods, the rapid sea level rises recorded in the geological record all point toward a process that was far faster and far more violent than the gradualist model has ever been comfortable acknowledging. The ice did not gently fade. It collapsed. Join Randall in the field in New York State for his Finger Lakes Tour, Aug 30 - Sep 5, 2026: randallfingerlakestour.manus.space

My cat disappeared for three days and came back wearing a handwritten bill, like he’d been running a quiet tab around the neighborhood. Muffin was sitting on my porch as if nothing had happened. Three days gone. No explanation. No guilt. No apology. Just my large orange cat, calmly licking his paw like he’d spent the weekend relaxing somewhere fancy, with a folded note tied to his collar using a strip of blue ribbon. At first, I thought he might be hurt. Then I untied the note. It read: YOUR CAT OWES ME FOR: 8 tuna pouches 2 bowls of chicken stew 1 slice of turkey and half a salmon patty he convinced me to share just by staring. At the bottom, in slightly shaky handwriting, was an address two streets away. I stood there in my socks, looking at Muffin. Muffin looked back like this had officially become my responsibility. I live in a small neighborhood where people wave politely but rarely stop to talk. Lawns are trimmed, packages arrive on time, and garage doors open and close like everyone is avoiding real interaction. Apparently, Muffin had built stronger connections than I had. He slipped past me and headed straight into the kitchen like he hadn’t just returned from an expensive food tour. I followed him, still holding the note. “Eight tuna pouches?” I said. He jumped onto the counter and meowed at his empty bowl. That cat had the confidence of someone who has never paid for anything in his life. To be clear— Muffin was not neglected. He was not underfed. He was twenty pounds of orange attitude, and every bit of him had been well taken care of. He had quality food, clean water, treats, a heated bed in winter, and better healthcare than I gave myself. And yet, he had gone out into the world and somehow created his own meal plan elsewhere. By noon, I was too embarrassed not to go. I put Muffin in his carrier—partly so he could face the consequences—and drove to the address on the note. It was a small white house with a porch swing and a row of tired-looking plants. An older woman opened the door before I could knock twice. Her eyes immediately went to the carrier. “There he is,” she said, smiling quickly. “The little freeloader.” I held up the note. “I came to pay what he owes.” She let out a soft laugh. “Oh, that was mostly a joke.” Inside, her house smelled like coffee and fresh laundry. It wasn’t fancy, just tidy and quiet—the kind of quiet that feels heavier than expected. Muffin started making noise in the carrier as soon as she stepped away. “Oh, let him out,” she said. “He knows this place.” Knows this place. That wasn’t something I was ready to hear. I opened the carrier, and that traitor walked straight to her recliner, jumped up, turned in a circle, and settled in like he owned it. She introduced herself as Marlene. She lived alone. Her husband had passed away two years earlier. Her daughter lived in another state. She mentioned that people nearby were kind—but busy. She repeated that word. Busy. Muffin had shown up a few days earlier around dinnertime, crying at her back steps like he had nowhere else to go. “I thought he was lost,” she said. “Then I gave him a little tuna, and he looked at me like I’d just fixed his whole life.” I laughed despite myself. She laughed too, but her eyes softened. “He came back the next day,” she said. “Same time. Sat with me while I ate. By the third day, he walked right in when I opened the door.” I glanced over at Muffin. He was already asleep in her chair. Like this had always been part of his routine. “I knew he was playing me,” Marlene said gently. “I’m not naive.” There was a pause. Then she looked at him again and added, “But it was nice having someone waiting for me.” That stayed with me. I had come ready to apologize for a greedy cat. Instead, I found someone who had started structuring her days around his visits. I still pulled out my wallet. She shook her head and pushed my hand away. “No,” she said. “You keep it.”

Muslim preacher in Britain wants to enslave non-Muslim girls so Muslim fathers won’t rape their own baby daughters. Flashback: A Muslim preacher in Britain has openly explained why Islam is morally superior because it obligates Muslims to enslave Christian women and girls. According to him, Muslim fathers should not be forced to change their own baby daughters’ diapers, because the infant girls naturally “seduce” them and tempt them to commit Zina (adultery or rape), which under Sharia is punishable by stoning for the young girls. His solution? Force non-Muslim girls into slavery so they can perform these basic parenting tasks instead, preventing Muslim babies from tempting their Muslim fathers and potentially facing capital punishment.

I wasn’t a cat person. Not even a little. Three decades of dogs, wagging tails, and muddy paws—and I was convinced that was all I needed. Cats were… fine. Just not mine. Then Marcelo showed up two weeks ago. A tiny kitten with no idea he was about to completely change someone’s mind. I didn’t know what I was doing. Still don’t, if I’m honest. The first few days felt like guessing—food, toys, sleep, repeat—and hoping I wasn’t messing it all up. But Marcelo? He didn’t seem to care.
