When I started learning English, I had weird pride. "Watching with subtitles isn’t cool." So I tried to understand without them. But I got almost nothing. Later, I realized subtitles aren’t cheating but a powerful learning tool. My first enemy in learning English was my pride.

I talked around 150 language exchange partners. Only 5 are still in my life. The difference? We moved from texting to real conversation. Texting doesn’t build language partners. Showing up does. That’s why I’m building MeetApart.

I talked with my language exchange friend about what 微妙 (bimyo) means. It’s often translated as "so-so" or "subtle", but there’s a shared feeling behind it: 1. Avoiding a clear yes or no to spare someone’s feelings 2. Feeling something is off, but not knowing how to explain it

Why do you keep learning a language? Ofc, I wanna be fluent someday, but I love the process itself. Little by little, I understand more of what my fave actor or singer says. It’s hard to learn alone, so I do video calls with native speakers. We teach each other(Japanese/English).

I’ve been building an app to help people schedule video calls and doing video calls with a British guy for language learning (JP ↔ EN). Today, he told me he spoke Japanese well with natives—thanks to me. I like coding, but I love it more when it helps people get real results.

I am sick of the govt. Website it doesn't work. I was helping my mother to download admit card of her upcoming examinations and We can even upload the photos and signature even though it is under limit. Checked the errors and it gives this error in console.

I had a video call with my language exchange friend, an English native. We watched my fave drama and talked about the lines. Watching alone feels like studying, but with a native I can check if phrases are used daily and ask about nuances. It makes my language learning feel real.

By using my language exchange app, I can have video calls regularly, and I teach Japanese. One of my friends sent me this, and it made me so happy. My English is also improving thx to my partners. If you’re interested in my app or doing a language exchange, please comment below!
