$BTC I’m looking for a retest of 88.5K. In my last post, I mentioned that I was expecting 92–94K. We’re approaching that region faster than expected heading into FOMC. Because of that, we could start to chop around or have hunts back down before FOMC, until the Fed likely announces rate cuts. I think this is the last bit of hopium the market has, with sellers easing into the catalyst and trapping more liquidity. Overall, I don’t think BTC pushes back above 100K without retesting 70K. In a real bear market, you don’t get violent recoveries that let you exit your bags, you are the exit liquidity. Those higher targets people want just don’t happen. 88.5K has a very strong chance of being retested locally, along with the previous wick high near 92.5K. Keep in mind we’re still in a downtrend and have already retraced about 12% off the lows.

Despite the recent move upward (driven mostly by short covering), we can see that OI has actually been declining. Both shorts and longs have been closing positions at the same time. This indicates there’s very little overall conviction in the market. I said this at 88.5K. If leverage isn’t increasing during an upward move, it suggests buyers aren’t stepping in. Overall market confidence is extremely low, and that usually means the move up is weak, driven more by short covering than real demand.
