Apart from Netflix’s “The Chair”, are there good books that capture the drama of academia — politics, egos, hiring, tenure, all of it? Would love recommendations.

I write in @the_hindu today— 💧On #WorldWaterDay, PM @narendramodi & @JalShaktiMin called for community action for water conservation. 💧To that end, I lay out 5 suggestions that must be considered while framing rural water policy. 💧Thoughts/feedback welcome!

The basically positive function of the ecological crisis is to renew a general concern for what human life is about. Naess, A. (1995/2005)

Explanation is reductive, not comprehensive; most of the time, when you explain something, you discover leftovers. An explanation is a bucket, not a well. Wendell Berry, Life is a Miracle

@alexxguss A soft duty not to have them. Bringing a life into existence guarantees it will experience harm and suffering, even if it may also experience joy and pleasure. The odds are increasingly not good, and a life that never existed can never know harm.

Your life isn’t empty, it’s meaningless. Don’t confuse those two. It has no meaning for anybody but that doesn’t mean it has to be empty. You are a human being you can make it full. How? There’s work, family, love – the usual bullshit, but it’s reasonably effective. Woody Allen

What kind of green society would I, given my value priorities and preferences, look forward to? Certainly one respecting a high degree of self-determination, a high degree of individual choices, institutions that are open to personal initiative. Naess, A. (1999)

@whitehorsepress Stoked to see this. Would've been nice though if it had contributions from the developing countries. That's really where the debate is.

We’re delighted to announce vol 6 iss 1 of ‘The Journal of Population and Sustainability’, the first issue published by WHP (first of many!). It boasts the same calibre of incisive writing but has a new look throughout and a new home on the web. whp-journals.co.uk/JPS #envhum

Ownership in the indigenous communities often means 'being responsible for;' unlike the west, where ownership means 'dominion' & 'exploitation.' When indigenous co. demand forest right, governments should take it seriously, as they would be doing a service that most of us can't.

You know that quote you keep quoting every time you sit down to write? Would love to see yours. Mine currently is: "As for us, we are like plants which have the one choice of being in or out of the light." (Simone Weil, Waiting on God)
