Our “whole-of-society” approach to improving population health means quality care for every condition affecting Nigerians. The Renewed Hope agenda is also about restoring the dignity of people.
I met with Mathis Winkler @mathiswinkler, the Chairman of Noma Aid Nigeria Initiative at the @Fmohnigeria and was deeply touched by the stories of Noma victims, especially the indignation to which they’re subjected. But I was quite inspired by the symbolic labour of love and compassion to uplift the human dignity of the patients.
Noma is an orofacial gangrene, that affects malnourished children and has a high mortality rate leaving survivors with facial deformities and societal rejection. The disease remains a burden in low- and middle-income countries, especially those along the “Noma belt”, including Nigeria.
Thank you for your work in fighting against Noma disease and completion of soon to be commissioned 80-bed Noma Treatment Centre at the National Hospital Abuja to treat this disease and offer psychological therapy for wholesome rehabilitation of patients.
We will work with you and other partners to demystify Noma and reduce the pains associated with this neglected non-contagious disease towards producing health and restore dignity for the victims.
