that said, Dark Tournament had a lot more raw emotion than I remembered feeling before watching Yusuke progress from "no one would miss me if I died" to genuinely emotionally connecting with other people and that being directly tied to his spirit energy was immensely satisfying

a reason why I loved Chapter Black to begin with was how the introduction of territories twist certain fights from the slugfests of Dark Tournament into puzzles it's a clever progression from Toguro, who'd become a demon of unrivaled strength, though it pisses off Yusuke lol

Yu Yu Hakusho episode 68 is so pretty there's so much going on visually that sells the reality-warping nature of territories, between the bold color contrasts and the angled storyboards

can't say I understood all of Haibane Renmei, but I certainly felt it

the highway fuckin weaved through the mountains for miles and miles, then suddenly I turn the corner and everything opens up and the sun and the colors and the fuck holy shit nature is so fucking prettyyyyy

driving through the mountains in Utah at sunset was a genuinely life-changing experience to recapture my reaction in the moment: "aaaaaaaa what the fuuuuck it's so pretty what the fuck aaaaaaaa anime is reeeeaaaaaallll"
