@BritishBC @MattLearnsLingo multilingualism definitely isn’t a necessity, i’d argue that’s one of the biggest reasons most native English speakers only ever half-arse another language

@MattLearnsLingo True, actually. I don’t understand, honestly understand, how you can get through life these days by only speaking one language. The world has changed and a need to be multilingual is a necessity, no matter where anyone is from.

there are tens of millions of duolingo users yet 99% of them really aren’t that bothered about learning a language how do you explain that?

thing i love about video call is you can just babble on and on about absolute nonsense and even if your tenses and grammar are all over the place lily still gets what you’re trying to say i’ve never felt so comfortable speaking another language

that, i do believe, can be regarded as ‘consistency’

never really understood this daily quest you only get like one roleplay a unit 🤷‍♂️

a little in the morning a little at night score keeps rising

love how randomly specific these units have become on the French course

so, just hit 64 in French 🇫🇷 the goal is 130 (Upper B2) to get there this time next year, i’d need to increase my score roughly every 5 days that means 2 units a day, every day allons-y 💪

don’t tell me Duolingo doesn’t teach practical vocabulary we just had the most wonderful discussion about the merits of becoming a penguin

guess it makes sense though don’t think anyone was really signing up for Max *because of* EMA (for me at least it was all about Video Call) + it basically replaced the old answer comments, which used to be free

i think the hardest thing about learning a language is knowing you really don’t need to learn it you can just roll with English knowing pretty much every door will open for you

i used to tell people not to bother with leagues on Duolingo but honestly these days it can be the only thing that can get me to bash out my 30 minutes
