@geckobike @gazza_d @GMB Cos it's easier to gauge the speed without constantly looking down at 30 and there's more margin for being slightly over at 30 and not getting a ticket. It's a matter of scale. If the speed limit was 10mph you'd have even less margin of error. It's obvious.

@JamesMelville ULEZ is a complete joke. Apparently there is now a mobile ULEZ ANPR unit at Heathrow's terminal 5 targeting cars picking up or dropping off passengers. How the hell is one of the busiest airports in the world a "low emission zone"? Cars making no diff to the jets just yards away.

A ULEZ camera is positioned outside the entrance of a cancer treatment hospital in Sutton. Absolutely disgusting. Surveillance of motorists arriving for cancer treatment or to visit loved ones in hospital is not a good look. yourlocalguardian.co.uk/news/23763650.…

@iainlee @LeonardCheshire Councils all over the UK have been pulling these kinds of strokes for some time now. If it's not care homes it's other publicly owned service buildings including police stations. Sold off to developers who make a packet and the money gained by councils is soon gone. Scandalous.

@calvinrobinson Probably. But also it's largely down to the downturn in quality of content available on the traditional channels. Comedy in particular has been on a steep descent into an unfunny, politically correct pile of dung for a long time now. The best days of comedy are long gone.

Yesterday saw a record-low number of people watching TV in the UK for the past two decades. Monday was the second lowest number. Tomorrow may be even lower. People are turning off their televisions. Does that mean people are waking up to mainstream media manipulation?

Now the insurance industry is having a go at playing the inflation game. How can they justify yet another year of no claims resulting in my car insurance going from £526 to £847? It's just profiteering for the sake of it. Just like banks, supermarkets & energy companies. #ripoff

@hardistymark Crazy isn't it. Between mortgage rate rises, energy price hikes, food and insurance, I'd say a large amount of the country are trying to get by on thousands of pounds less a year than they were used to. And the frightening thing is those prices will never come down again.

@AllisonPearson Norway have had it sorted for years. And the oil industry profits make their way back into public life to the benefit of all. And they will continue to do well for their population because, unlike UK, they are not vastly overpopulated with a rapidly ever increasing head count.

Norway is exploiting her North Sea oil reserves to the max. UK won’t exploit our N Sea reserves (ugh, fossil fuels!) BUT UK buys 77% of her gas from, guess where? Norway! And pays Norway £14 billion a year for her awful fossil fuels. So UK can look greener than thou while vastly enriching a country with 100% more sense than our deluded politicians. UK net zero if target ever hit (it won’t be) will be built on hypocrisy.

@RedFive1243 Yep. Apparently the industry is raising premiums on middle age and older drivers, who historically are less likely to be involved in an accident or claim. It's just a cash grab.

@RedFive1243 There is no justification for these 60% + increases. Was there a glut of payouts last year? Did a significant portion of the industry go bust or lose it's shirt. It's just cynical profiteering off of the general consensus that everything must go up in price.

@JontyUpNorth @andgregor @AllisonPearson This comes as no shock. But for most folks it would largely depend on how much council tax they pay a year, in addition to income tax, NI, etc. Most tax payers are concerned about how their hard earned money is being spent by those who receive it.

Er, Birmingham City Council blew £17 million on taxis to take kids to school. Several hundred million more on “consultants”. It recalls Neil Kinnock’s superb rant against Militant in Liverpool. Underfunding is not the only issue here.
Andy Burnham@AndyBurnhamGM

Labour councils have run out of money. Conservative councils have run out of money. The main underlying reason? National government’s disrespect for local government and failure to fund it. It’s gone on for decades under all parties but has hit new levels in the last one.

@JontyUpNorth @andgregor @AllisonPearson To be more specific, the public who pay the council tax pay for those taxis. I think the public would be alarmed if they saw how much is spent on school cab runs.

@CarlaMarieUK You should look into taking legal action. If you've got proof she was sent your ideas with the same top line melodies on then they'd be crazy to ignore it. Especially if it's a big label. Don't let it go if they're making serious money out of your work.

@trasheadrich @CommodoreBlog PG didn’t exist as a rating in the UK when Jaws 2 came out. I’m wondering if the BBFC adopted the American ratings when it all changed in ‘82?

You wake up tomorrow as a child in the 70s. Mum said we can choose a movie to see as a special treat tonight. Which is it going to be, and what will you try to sneak into after?
