@mmbronstein I have heard (and it seems to be the case) that it is purposeful aging. Some buildings at Yale look this way because they have been artificially aged by pouring acid down the building's facade like in this case: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harkness_…

Yale colleges architecture has an “Oxbridge” feel (“collegiate Gothic”) but is relatively recent (this is Saybrook, less than 100 years old). It looks like the broken and repaired glass features are purposeful to give it that ancient look. Anybody knows?

@_beenkim Very interesting work! Our recent ICLR paper works to measure and develop more reliable (and provably reliable!) explanations. Hopefully we can push the method to work on the scales studied in this paper. ICLR paper: arxiv.org/abs/2212.08507

Our work does not imply that feature visualization isn’t a useful tool. Instead, we hope that analyzing some of its shortcomings can help inspire the development of more reliable methods and visualizations. (5/6)
