🇫🇷 Another tragic evening in Lyon, France - holding on by a thread: A society buckling under the unbearable weight of free healthcare, paid parental leave, nine weeks of vacation, reliable public transport, and the extremist idea that citizens shouldn’t live in constant fear of the state. Meanwhile elsewhere, real strength prevails. People enjoy the comforting simplicity of knowing exactly what they’re allowed to say, think, and post. Journalists experience the adrenaline rush of legal ambiguity. Critics win surprise travel packages to distant regions. Elections are streamlined, decisive, and emotionally undemanding. Back in Lyon, residents continue to suffer through tedious stability, supermarkets fully stocked, and the psychological toll of choosing between twenty kinds of bread, hundreds of different cheese and an unreasonable number of wines. No loyalty oaths. No compulsory patriotism. No nightly reminder that civilization is about to collapse any minute now. Experts warn that if this recklessness continues, Europeans may begin to believe that life can be predictable, safe, and quietly pleasant - without fear. A deeply dangerous precedent for strongman economies everywhere.

"I think people's reputations and careers will be destroyed and I think people are gonna go to prison." In August, @OwenJonesJourno spoke to @AyoCaesar on Downstream about the reckoning coming for the cheerleaders of genocide. You can still watch back the whole episode on our YouTube channel.

Aegean Boat Report
Aegean Boat Report@ABoatReport·
The report we published yesterday, about two small children stripped naked and left in the middle of the sea in the dark, by the Greek coast guard, has gotten a lot of reactions, as it definitely should. People are in general shocked and disgusted by this behaviour, quite normal reaction I would say, but many, especially Greeks, don’t believe this is true, and that their heroic coast guard would never have done such a thing. Some say that “our coastguard have saved thousands of people at sea”, these are the identical words spoken by the Greek prime ministers Kyriakos Mitsotakis every single time he is confronted with their illegal and violent pushback tactics.. Others say “they got what they deserved when coming to our country illegally, they were not invited”, and seem to be totally indifferent about the fact that these were two small children. Treating these two boys was seemingly ok because they were Afghans, had they been European children the same people would have been screamed bloody murder from the rooftops, demanding the responsible behind bars, what do that tell us? I find it troubling that it seems like the general perception of the Greek people is that their government can’t possibly do anything wrong, because they say they don’t. It would take them less than a minute online to see that their government is lying to them, and that these “claims” of illegal pushbacks are in fact true, and that hundreds of people are being killed. The problem is that most don’t want to know, it’s easier not to, because if if they looked into the facts, their ideal Greek world would come tumbling down and beak in thousand pieces, and they can certainly not have that, it’s more convenient to just believe their government, and everything is ok. Germans did the same many years ago, they ate everything that was served them without asking any questions, even do they deep down knew something was very wrong, they just moved along in their lives as if nothing was wrong, no question asked. Those asking questions, or those who was putting out information that the government didn’t like, was swiftly delta with, to silence those voices was a priority. The usual tactic was to make up charges and make it seem like they were criminals, ring any bells? In this technological day and age, it’s not that simple anymore, because all information is available for them, online, to claim “we didn’t know” won’t give anyone a free pass. Perhaps most of those who do actually comment, are right wing and not very friendly to anyone with a different religion or skin colour, and that everyone else keeps quiet, because it’s more convenient than to speak their mind and confront these elements. If only one side is active, those not agreeing on how their government is behaving, stay silent, the outside world gets the impression that these actions are ok by the Greek people, the only ones that can do something about that, is those who remain silent. A wise man once said "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil, God will not hold us guiltless”.

I want to stay upbeat on Europe but it’s getting hard. As Israel tries to collapse the Iranian state risks for Europe are monumental: massive migration, sharo spike in oil, terrorism for a start. What do European leaders do? Applaud like todlers seeing a giraffe for first time

There aren’t words strong enough to describe the cowardice and depravity of a “military” that will methodically execute medical workers, bury them in mass graves, and tell the NYT the vehicles were “advancing suspiciously” without lights on. These soldiers and their superiors are utterly depraved and a threat to all humanity. Before hiding the bodies in a mass grave, they forgot to grab the cell phone of one of the medics who recorded his own assassination for the world to see — if it cares. As the “soldiers” are nearing their vehicle, and the medic knows they will murder him, you can hear him saying: “Forgive us, everyone. Oh God, accept me as a martyr and accept my repentance. Oh mother, forgive me, this is the path I have chosen to help people.” x.com/farnazfassihi/…

Israel killed at least 1,060 healthcare workers since the start of its annihilation of Gaza. What would it take for all those who deny, dismiss, ignore, justify, “find it complicated”, to show some empathy with Palestinians & denounce Israel’s crimes, just as simple as that?
