🧵🪡 On why the £500m regeneration of the Gascoigne by @lbbdcouncil @BeFirstLondon and @BDReside is considered by those living within it as a resounding failure.

@Paul_Robinson24 Perhaps your constituents got rid of you as you refused to remove your support for the racist, corrupt, former leader of Barking and Dagenham council? Just a thought 💭

There are so many positive things Labour can do, that is why they were elected in 2024 and have bee delivering. Let’s not get distracted. Barking and Dagenham are proof that positive work @BDLabour @Nesil_Caliskan

The local elections have been disastrous for Labour and many hard working dedicated labour councillors lost their seats. People that made huge positive changes for their communities. In a time which has been hugely difficult for local governments.

@AydinDikerdem Hi Aydin, having been on the receiving end of the thin skinned nature of that wing of the party, it’s great to see someone else calling it out.

If the Labour Party doesn’t get its soul back, it will become a zombie Party. Too big to die, too weak to win, and limping towards an election where its main competitor becomes the Greens and under FPTP we hand the country to Reform.

A year ago I left this website, partly because of how racist it had got, but also because I was warned people in the Labour Party wanted to block me from re-running as a councillor (because I’m leftwing). A project built on fear and cronyism was always going to end this way.

@MattLismore That's hardly fair, but I don't think anyone would disagree that shared ownership is daft - the housing associations don't like it, and the owners don't like it either.

Problem is Russell, leasehold and shared ownership are designated as “Affordable” but the reality is they are the worst tenure going. Promising to build affordable house but building it in a tenure we are banning because it is “feudal” and “predatory” is a conflicted message. Leasehold is bad & we should not build a single additional leasehold unit, certainly not shared ownership.
Russell Curtis@russellcurtis

New towns must contain 40% affordable housing—so the Green Party decides to collaborate with Tories to prevent the delivery of 8,400 affordable homes?

Was matching what came my way, but we would need to ban leasehold tenure & ban shared ownership. Then we can start to believe that affordable is truly affordable. There are “affordable” homes in Hackney up for sale at £800k but designated as “affordable” because they’re available on SO.

Peter; if you want to see an example of a bad “Newtown” look no further than Barking Riverside. Fleecehold estate charges, unregulated heat networks that don’t work, leasehold service charges at way over 1.5% of property value & huge number of homes with flammable cladding. People have lost trust that the UK can build properly.

@paulmasonnews Is anything worth preserving or should everything be leasehold flats? Nobody inside the M25 should expect any lifestyle amenities to be preserved, all we need is pokey rabbits hutches to sleep in before commuting to the city.

Why don't we do this in Britain? We could dig trenches across every housing estate in Britain and install these underground waste units that only need a two-man operation to empty. Simple, efficient, and clean. No more overflowing bins and bags cluttering the streets.

Remarkable that Jas Athwal, is turning on Starmer despite causing the first “distraction” of this parliamentary term himself. The slumlord MP who broke the licensing rules he himself introduced as council leader of Redbridge, while renting out homes overrun with vermin, mould & fire safety defects. Jas personifies why our party has become so unpopular with voters and a party that was serious about renters rights would have expelled him. If we’re talking about restoring the trust in our party, being open about this type of issue has to be front and centre.
Jas Athwal MP@Jas_Athwal

Sir Keir Starmer transformed the Labour Party into a serious, electable force, and I voted for him. As Prime Minister, he has made real contributions, and I am grateful for them. However, the country must come first. Millions of working people desperately need a focused Labour government delivering a brighter future. Yet we cannot govern effectively when we are constantly distracted by speculation, mistakes and a loss of trust. Even in places like Redbridge, where we held up better in the locals, the message from voters was clear: the Prime Minister has lost the confidence of the country. Today’s speech failed to show he can regain that trust or lead us through the huge challenges we face at home and abroad. It is therefore with deep regret that I conclude it is in the national interest for Sir Keir Starmer to step down as Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party. This must happen in a smooth, dignified and orderly way so the Party can choose new leadership and get back to the work people elected us to do.

We don't need a leadership contest. It will damage us. We are already being damaged by calls for one. I will back the PM in the event of a contest. Here's my argument: labourlist.org/2026/05/the-gr…

Email your Labour MP and tell them not to hand the keys to Downing Street straight to Farage. This attempt to oust Starmer is exactly what they’ve been campaigning for. Tell them to remove their name. Holdtheline.org.uk

Respectfully housing secretary, let’s look at whether the govt has acted with “urgency” on housing matters. Leasehold - still not abolished ❌ Flammable cladding remediation - pushed back to around 2040 ❌ New homes built - far below the rate required for 1.5m new homes ❌ Telling people things are better, when they clearly haven’t changed will do nothing for our ratings in the polls.

The government will “act with urgency when it’s required” Yet leasehold remains unbanned, despite an urgent need to end the tenure on both new and existing homes. Pushed back past 2030 now. Or perhaps the flammable cladding crisis ruining lives and putting them at risk will trigger urgency… no that has been long grassed too. While people like Steve Reed either willingly or through lack of understanding fail to grasp the severity of under delivery & the impact it has had on people’s voting habits, we don’t stand a chance at the next election.
