Google just activated a dormant superpower that OpenAI can't copy. Their new Personal Intelligence update for Gemini proves that the next phase of AI isn't about raw intelligence...it's about context. By ingesting your Gmail, photos, search logs, and YouTube watch history, Google is doing something OpenAI literally cannot do: utilizing a decades-long backlog of your digital footprint to personalize responses instantly. The analogy I use in the video is simple: OpenAI is a first date; Google is a 20-year marriage. One is trying to impress you; the other already knows where you left your keys and what you looked like in 2009. The battle for the "best" model is over. Is Meta is the sleeping giant of AI shopping? They are testing out a new AI shopping tool that isn't focused on just the tech, it leans into their social graph. With 3.53 billion users, Meta knows your intent and your mood better than any search engine or digital platform. If they can successfully bolt an AI commerce layer onto their ad machine, they become a viable agentic commerce player. The infrastructure is ready...I'm just not sure the consumer is. Meta is about to turn your face into a digital ID tag. I’ve been wearing the Meta Ray-Bans for a while now, and if I’m being honest, they’re easily the best AI wearable on the market. The tech is seamless. But there’s a massive "surveillance state" asterisk coming. The New York Times just dropped a report on an internal Meta document regarding a feature called "Name Tag." It’s exactly what it sounds like: real-time facial recognition that identifies people as you look at them. The disconcerting part is Meta’s strategy. Internal docs suggest they want to roll this out while "civil society groups" are distracted by the current political environment. Basically, they’re looking for a window where no one has the bandwidth to fight them. We saw a version of this last week when Ring scrambled to bury their "find-a-dog" feature after the Super Bowl backlash. Ads in ChatGPT: exciting or existential threat for OpenAI? They're starting with $60 CPMs, a very high premium for an unproven ad product, but the same starting point as Netflix in 2022 (according to Ad Age). Netflix waited 15 years and accrued $4.5B in yearly profit before running ads. OpenAI is doing it while bleeding cash and on the hook for $1.3TN in spending. Oh, and advertisements don't work at scale inside a 1:1 LLM experience, I've learned this working alongside Perplexity to help develop their charter advertising product over a year ago. It may be an agentic holiday, but I've found a severe flaw in the technology. Yes, AI influenced 1 in 5 Cyber Week orders this year, shaping recommendations, chat, and personalized offers across $336.6B in spend. Today, AI helps reduce decision fatigue and narrow choices. Tomorrow, agents may remove the choice altogether, purchasing on our behalf based on deep personal context. But, if you watched closely when Sam Altman and OpenAI livestreamed a demo of its agentic browser Atlas, I caught an egregious mistake.
