@jppl1979 @lamphieryeg So set the calendar to 2065 and then I can criticize? They certainly take a bow whenever there is good news.

@mattwing1973 @lamphieryeg It depends on which policy… if you are talking of personal residence and real estate being so much of our economy, you might have to go back to the tax reform of 1972… different Trudeau back then.

So you're saying the same Liberal party that delivered this ⬇️over the past decade can fix it by connecting cities that have a lower GDP per capita than Alabama? Sorry. Your math isn't mathing. 😉

@jppl1979 @lamphieryeg It's only been 11 years and 4 elections. When can we start blaming them directly for these outcomes? Can you give me a date so I can book it in my calendar?

What you fail to grasp Gary is that a decline in GDP was in part due to the liberals but also in part due to policies put in motion long before Q1 of 2015… just like the growth in the 1990s was in large part due to sound economic policies of the Mulroney years. Were the Trudeau years good for the Canadian economy? No, absolutely no doubt. Was it the only contributing factors? No. We have collectively failed to address productivity for 40 years. The economics of a country the size of Canada is like a cruise ship, takes a while to turn.

@ItsDeanBlundell Isn't it more efficient for the "grocery lobby" to give to the party that's in charge for the last 11 years?

Andrew Scheer and the Conservative Party of Canada take millions of dollars in donations from the grocery lobby and Canada’s Grocery Oligarchs to oppose feeding Canadians for less. Worth fucking remembering. God, I hate this disingenuous, gooey, lying fuck.
Andrew Scheer@AndrewScheer

Images from the last time someone thought it would be a good idea for the government to run grocery stores: Breadlines, and empty shelves. But I’m sure this time will be different, right comrades?

@jppl1979 @MarcLevesqueEco @RomanFisher__ A sole proprietor might disagree. Having to do a income tax return and then a GST return is added overhead. Lots of people have gotten in trouble for GST issues via ignorance or poor education. My minimal GST reporting is an extra nuisance. But overall you are prob correct.

@Verbalfury The NDP could write the book in making yourself unelectable. I have often thought the far right is way out of touch with regular people but these guys are every bit as out of touch or more. Like, don’t they know any regular working people? Nobody normal thinks this way.

@Citizen004 @TorontoStar @CommunityNotes Bartlett relocated to LA. So I guess its technically true to call it a US podcast. But its spirit is UK. Bartlett is a curious guy I listen to it from time to time.

@jppl1979 @MarcLevesqueEco @RomanFisher__ Too much of a good thing 😉? The GST was a superior tax vs the old manufacturer's tax it replaced. I am not sure if we should call it "good". But spending requires revenues and it probably served us well before 2020.

@MarcLevesqueEco @jppl1979 @RomanFisher__ I agree. The politics around the GST is fascinating. Harper lowering it was good politics but perhaps not good econs. Raising the GST 4-5% points would go a long way to balancing the budget and I expect this to happen at some point given spending promises (Rail/Military).

@MarcLevesqueEco He may have done it, and was the first PM, but I bet it was there was someone else who started the rhetoric and we copied it. Chat GPT implies the idea started with FDR, but the term started to show up in Reagan/Clinton speaches. If it was Martin, he would deserve this:

@jppl1979 @RomanFisher__ I remember what happened to the last Liberal who promised to abolish the GST. He got a majority, didn't abolish it, apologized for not doing it and got another majority.
