Context he'd rather skip: Nawrocki stripped him of the Order of the White Eagle after Zelensky named a Ukrainian special forces unit after the UPA, the group responsible for the genocide of roughly 100,000 Polish civilians in Volhynia. Nawrocki's words: Zelensky "has proven that Ukraine, in glorifying the bandits and murderers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, is not ready to be part of the European family."

Croatia had to condemn the Ustasha, otherwise they wouldn't be able to join the EU. Praising the Ustasha would make Croatia's neighbours freak out, like Slovenia who already was in the EU.

The east is the frontline, central Ukraine, including Kyiv has been repeatedly hit by missile and drone strikes, and the west has also seen attacks on cities like Lviv and infrastructure targets. Across the country there are air raid alerts, power grid strikes, displacement, and full wartime mobilization under martial law

@mattywop89 @TacoHerder @DD_Geopolitics Mostly due to logistics coming from Europe to western Ukraine but it is miniscule. Russia, detrimental to its own military objectives to keep civilian costs low as possible has been limiting the fighting largely to regions of the East.
West has been largely unaffected.

I try so hard to be balanced with these right wingers. As you know, much of this is about more than UPA. Everything should be acknowledged and worked through. Unfortunately many of them just resort to being cry bullies. It’s cutting off your noise to spite your face type of situation

With all due respect and acknowledgement of atrocities commited and mass slaughter of the Polish (who were occupiers by the way) by UPA, but calling it unprecedented in WWII is nuts.

Curiously, they don't seem to have the same demands for the United States, where OUN and UPA memorials exist, for Canada, where a monument to Roman Shukhevych has stood for more than 50 years, or for the Netherlands, where Yevhen Konovalets' grave has been a place of remembrance for decades.

We and the Poles cannot be anything but partners and friends because we are neighbors. Hatred within society will only boost certain political ratings. This is a political struggle that could end in very dangerous escalation. Political dividends must not be gained from hatred.
We are defending Poland and Europe right now. Our warriors are dying. Our servicemembers choose a heroic name for their unit themselves, and as President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief, I must support them. Karol said, “You must revoke the decree.”
Beyond these historical issues, which, by the way, we discuss openly, there must also be respect for the present, for our army, and for the future. Without Ukraine, no one will be able to defend Poland. It is simply impossible. If there is no Ukraine, there will be no secure Poland either.
