The treaty was signed in 1986 by the apartheid government in SA and Lesotho's military junta. There was zero public consultation in either country, and the regimes were illegitimate by democratic standards. That undemocratic origin is a legitimate source of resentment.
A lot of people are so comfortable using settler colonialist language towards Lesotho and that just grates me. We are a people. Fully realised. We might be poor and reliant but we are a people. You want to take and take from us and we should just accept it because you “feed” us?
