The treaty was signed in 1986 by the apartheid government in SA and Lesotho's military junta. There was zero public consultation in either country, and the regimes were illegitimate by democratic standards. That undemocratic origin is a legitimate source of resentment.

A lot of people are so comfortable using settler colonialist language towards Lesotho and that just grates me. We are a people. Fully realised. We might be poor and reliant but we are a people. You want to take and take from us and we should just accept it because you “feed” us?

@matylet Mara that's a cop-out, sentimentality e etsa re ithole re sa buwe ka dintho tse important ka kelello tse sober. Imagine if this whole conversation was around the statecraft and the strategic interests at play, but it's overtaken by bullying/victimhood/irredentism. Hao shap!

@matylet Let's game this out. Say you the review gives your triple the current royalty, then what? You think Pretoria won't get anything in return? No impositions on strategic policy? I don't think you're that naive. Surely you know that you will have to give something back.

@africatodayMG We have their zama zamas killing people, he have their prostitutes in all corners. Their maids wrecking marriages. ARVs taken by them a lot. Many squatter camps by Basotho. Kuningi nje ka basotho. R2 million was enough for them because they use the same water.

@matylet yourself to dragged to the lower state of sentimentality. That's why I'm laying things like you are dumb. No, how Lesotho positions itself globally is part of the conversation Ma'am. For you, the leverage is the royalty, for its strategic policy.

@matylet Peculiar thing to be proud of, but I will reserve my comment, otherwise ke tlaba hurtful then you will feign victimhood. However, I'm surprised you didn't say much during the consultations. Interesting.
