A common painpoint with Billing solutions is that developers (and agents!) don't know how to model Plans/Products/Prices/etc We believe this stems from providers trying to model different businesses with the same primitives. For example, SaaS and e-commerce both leverage the same "Product" primitive. It works if you squint the right way, but squint the wrong way and you might fall into an antipattern with no easy recovery. This insight is why we're focusing only on SaaS first. We think we can build a better product with a narrow focus. Once it's done, we'll think about other verticals like ecomm. A key benefit to this strategy is that our primitives easily fall into place. Want someone on the same plan with a different price? Great! We have a button with the lingo you expect. This makes it much harder to mis-model.

Handle one-off deals without changing your core plans. Custom plans and pricing are now live in Clerk Billing.

@gounares @clerk Hey @gounares While it's one of Clerk's biggest 2026 projects, we don't have an ETA yet. The reason is that we are currently working on seat-based billing, along with a few other smaller features and improvements. UBB comes next!

@clerk I love what you all have done for billing! Any eta on the usage-based feature (or even a beta that maybe I could get in on?). I'd rather use you all than roll my own!
