The reason to come and make your film in England is that you’ll have available a stock of professional Shakespearean actors who will throw 100% into whatever goofy Flash Gordon knock off you give them, and turn it into cinematic gold.

It’s insane how good the actors here are. Acting sucks now. Like there’s some good star actors but random bit roles like these are not being played this well.

the genius of Andor is that it recognized how good this scene was and made an entire tv series of Imperial board room meetings

I have little doubt that AI tools will substantially change the way mathematics is done, likely pretty soon. But communicators like this are doing their audiences a disservice.
In this particular example the “new” contribution from the AI tool was plugging (n,m)=(5,3) into the expression 2n-m. I’m not exaggerating. The “number of multiplications” in the result in question was shown by Winograd ~45 years ago to be 2n-m, where the matrices in question are nxn, and m is the number of factors of the polynomial x^n-1. The “result” here is that this polynomial has 3 factors over Q(sqrt(5)), and then that 2*5-3=7. That’s it. Winograd’s result itself is an application of the Chinese Remainder Theorem.
At present, novel results by AI tools might tell you a few things. They tell you the model is smart! But in every case so far, they also tell you the result was not the focus of attention by experts, and that the result could be deduced by methods that are routine to experts from known results. And if someone claims the results are very significant in themselves (rather than because of what they say about the pace of progress), they tell you that person is full of shit.
To be clear I have little doubt this will all change soon—the rate of change is so rapid you’d have to be blind not to see it. And even if capabilities did not improve any further, the ability to automate “routine” but nontrivial work would be a huge deal for math research.
That automated tools can make progress on minor open questions is incredibly impressive. But that doesn’t excuse inaccuracy about current capabilities.
