#Washington : An Apple Watch helped save a woman’s life, allowing her to call 911, prior to being buried alive by her estranged husband!
On Sunday, October 16, 2022, at around 1:00pm, Young Sook An was kidnapped by her estranged husband, Chae Kyong An, from her home in Washington. The two were reportedly going through a divorce when Chae Kyong An came over and a fight ensued. According to charging documents, Chae Kyong attacked Young Sook, punching her in the head and throwing her to the ground.
“After attacking her in her bedroom, the husband tied Young Sook up with duct tape, before driving her away from their home into the woods. He then started digging a hole, stabbed her and placed her in the ground,” as per probable cause documents.
Thankfully, as a result of wearing her Apple Watch, Young Sook was able to alert her daughter and best friend, as well as call emergency services just before she was dragged into Chae Kyong's 2006 Dodge Caravan. (Chae Kyong allegedly smashed the Apple Watch before stuffing Young into the vehicle and taking her to the woods.)
After being left in the woods by her husband, Young Sook broke free when night fell and ran for 30 mins until she found a strangers door and asked them to call police.
On Monday, April 26, 2024, 54-year-old Chae Kyong was sentenced to 13 years and nine months followed by three years of community custody after entering a plea deal. (Not nearly enough time in my opinion.) Young Sook said she remains in fear for her life.
