Some endgames feel so theoretical that you never expect to see them over the board. Yet, I reached the Troitzky line for the second time in half a year today. Glad to have converted the win today and clinch the match for my team, taking the sole lead in the Dutch league!

4) GM @max_warmerdam plays on board 3 and he’s currently at his best ever rating of 2676.  The 2024 Dutch champion is closing in on the 2700 mark and could soon join the world’s elite. His courses on the Janowski Variation and Von Hennig-Schara Gambit will give you a good feel for his ultra-sharp and aggressive style.

@kevingohwm Organizers do take these things into account, as each of the rounds not played by them counts as half a point for buchholz.

I went to do a search on Warmerdam's opponents and I realised he also had opponents who withdrew midway in the tournament. I think organisers probably should take this into account when setting tiebreaks in the future, it is just mental to miss out on winning a tournament just because a couple of guys cannot be asked to finish the event.

Tin Jingyao scored an outstanding result of 7.5/9 at the Teplice Open, finishing tied first with Max Warmerdam and Alexander Donchenko. Unfortunately, despite leading from start to finish, he finished second on tiebreaks, much thanks to one of his opponents withdrawing after 6 rounds. It’s a pity, as he would have been the first Singaporean to win a strong European Open tournament in our history.
