Happy 74th Birthday to Greg Terlecky (March 20)! In his 1975 Cardinals MLB debut, nerves shaking his leg, he retired Pete Rose, struck out Ken Griffey Sr., and got outs on Johnny Bench & Dave Concepcion vs the Big Red Machine. One-season wonder, no pension.

Ever hear of Bob Taylor? The 1970 @SFGiants reserve backed up Willie Mays and borrowed his bat for his FIRST MLB homer — a 2-run shot vs the Dodgers! Then pinch-hit another off future Hall of Famer Don Sutton. 63 games in MLB. Played 1973-75 in NPB: Chunichi Dragons then Hanshin Tigers.

Did you know? On Sept 26, 1971, Steve Blateric gave up WILLIE MAYS’ LAST home run as a San Francisco Giant (his 646th)! The undrafted Denver RHP debuted with the @Reds that year, then bounced to the @Yankees & @Angels in a 5-game MLB career. True journeyman, no pension.

What's this? Is this for Seattle? WOW!
A sneak peak at the Mariners AL West Championship banner!
BTW, you'll get to see it hanging on opening day next Thursday.

You won’t believe how Pete Smith’s Red Sox career ended! Natick, MA kid (Colgate star) pitched just 7 MLB games for Boston (1962-63). On Sept 28, 1963 vs Angels at Fenway — his FINAL big-league appearance — he let a bunt pop-up DROP on purpose, fielded it, and started a jaw-dropping 1-5-6-4 TRIPLE PLAY! Sox won 4-3. Last ball he ever touched in MLB.

@maxeffgen Love that Pete had the assurity of signing this dead center. Made me have to look him up. My son goes to Colgate so makes it even better.

The infamous @Mets trade that sent Nolan Ryan to the Angels also included pitcher Don Rose. Rose didn’t become a legend like Ryan… but in 1972 he hit a HOME RUN on the VERY FIRST PITCH of his MLB at-bat — only the 3rd pitcher EVER! (And earned his lone win that same game.)

Did you know Paul Powell — the #7 overall pick in the 1969 MLB Draft from Arizona State (1969 College World Series champs & two-sport star)? He debuted with the @Twins in 1971, smashed his lone MLB homer in just his 3rd game, then played for the @Dodgers .

Garry Jestadt (Expos ’69, Cubs & Padres 1971-72) is one of ~500 pre-1980 MLBers without a pension. Drafted 7th round by the Cubs in MLB’s VERY FIRST amateur draft (1965). But this Scottsdale legend started a foundation helping first responders who lack benefits. Class act off the field! Happy 79th.

My official petition for @ClintHurdle13 to be the next manager of Team USA.
Very few people would represent the nation and the game of baseball like he could at the world stage.
Oh, and by the way, the last time a former Buccos skipper took the reins for Team USA, they won.

Chris Webber was asked about the timeout.
His response was perfect 💯

On Jerry Tabb's 74th birthday: From Tulsa freshman winning 1971 CWS Most Outstanding Player & Pan Am Games rep, to Cubs 1st-rounder (#16, 1973) and Oakland Athletic (6 HR in 1977 season). .226 career AVG over 74 MLB games. High-pick, short-career, no pension.

@maxeffgen @jaysonst has the best plan I’ve ever seen on this.

I love the ASG and have been 8x. That said, WBC mid MLB season would be interesting.
Dave “Softy” Mahler@Softykjr
This general idea needs to be discussed in some form or fashion. Not sure realistically how that would look, but the conversation should take place

called strike 3s for the US in the 8th and 9th

Jeff Passan@JeffPassan
That is a bad strike three call on Juan Soto in the eighth inning. Shouldn’t happen period. Absolutely cannot happen in a game like this.
