@MarcAspinall Dashiell Hammett, father of hardboiled noir. Red Harvest, Maltese Falcon, the Continental Op shorts (underrated), The Thin Man, direct inspiration/ripoffs in Brick, Millers Crossing. Great stuff!

This year so far I’ve read three books each by Chandler, Highsmith, Le Carré and two by Proulx; I definitely lock in on artists I like (I also suck at finding new authors as well tbf)

@MarcAspinall Alamo Drafthouse does a curated pre-show custom to each film. Little fun things. Japanese music video parodies with the characters. Ads for McDonalds toys. thematically connected things. Diff assortment every time. Like a short film block of cultural artifacts and ads

Although he speaks about shorts (which is an excellent idea) I remember when there were cartoons before the films, no matter what the film was and idk that would be pretty neat, even if it makes no sense thematically
