@Smith10Allen @amjonno York and Rochdale will both end up on well over 100 points, yet one of them may not get promoted. Both teams are good enough for the top half of league two, based on the last 20 years of promoted teams. That is objectively broken.

@andlloyd22 @amjonno Until there is financial parity between the Premier League and the EFL you could argue there should be no promotion / relegation between them. Except that would be utterly mental and against the spirit of sport, of course.

@markg80 @The_Forty_Four Because every 1 promotion place is an extra 2 relegation places for the league above. 6 relegation spots in a 24 team league is simply not feasible - which is why no other league in the world that I know of has that many.

@maxomuss @The_Forty_Four It operates from national leagues downwards too though. It's not essentially an EFL issue. Leagues below NLN/NLS have to deal with the same issue of one automatic spot. Why don't they get increased

The only clubs contesting this extra promotion place will be teams clearly good enough for the league above, as the last 20 years proves.

@markg80 @The_Forty_Four Oldham finished 23 points behind York last season, and went up instead of them. This season they are 7 points off the playoffs in League Two. The bottom half of the national league may not have much to brag about, but almost all promoted teams into league two are very comfortable

@Nick_Brown86 @caain0 @Mcorser17797 Not a great justification - the clubs up there still go up in subsequent seasons because the teams coming down from league 2 are usually much worse, for the same reason clubs going up almost always stay up - there’s a bottleneck between the two leagues.
