Navy has opened the season in victorious fashion, posting a perfect (6-0) record behind the stellar play of sophomore Zanai Barnett-Gay. The Glenn Dale native has been outstanding, averaging (16.8) points, (6.8) rebounds, (3.5) assists, and (2.3) steals per game. Her most recent performance featured a 22-point, 13-rebound double-double in a 75-61 victory over Longwood. It marked her second consecutive 20-point outing and her fourth straight game with multiple steals. As a freshman last season, Barnett-Gay was one of only two players to average at least 18 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals—the other being Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo. She ranked among the top five freshmen in points (5th), assists (5th), and steals (2nd). Her debut season earned her a spot on THS’ preseason top 25 sophomores list. Now, Barnett-Gay is leading Navy to its best start since the 2017-18 season. The Midshipmen will look to extend their streak next week with matchups against Toledo and George Mason. ✨
