I roll my eyes at the "there's too much sex in media" takes cos I disagree that sex in media is as prevalent as people say But I do watch HBO shows and often think "this full frontal penis shot is doing nothing for the narrative."

"calling pregnancy body horror is misogynistic" you are quite literally having your body ripped open. that's not a joke or a euphemism. nearly all births involve some amount of tearing. it's okay to admit that pregnancy + birth is daunting and horrifying.

@mayorkrissy @therapatical I think a big line for me is also when you’re saying it directly to/about someone specific. Saying that pregnancy is horrifying and calling it body horror with no distinguishing characteristics about someone’s body being mentioned is not degrading pregnant bodies.

Its a list of physical traits women have for nearly a year straight. Degrading the body is the same as degrading the woman whose body it is

@mayorkrissy @therapatical Of the people I’ve seen use the term, I haven’t seen that at all. It seems to me it tends to be a miscommunication of wording. You see the word body horror as “disgust” I see the word body horror as “horrifying things that happens in and around the body of animals”

@mayorkrissy @therapatical Horror doesn't inherently imply disgust but encompasses a range of emotions including terror/fear, looming inevitability/dread, etc. Disgust and shock is just the low hanging fruit of horror, it's easy to implement so it's common, whereas the rest takes good or great storytelling
