"We need more nuance." "Everyone is different." "It depends on your goals." We have been doing the nuance thing for fifty years. Fifty years of food pyramids, food plates, food circles, colour-coded portion guides with little cartoon vegetables on them. Fifty years of "everything in moderation" while half the country becomes diabetic. Fifty years of guidelines written by committees that include representatives from the cereal industry, the seed oil industry, and the company that makes the spread that is one molecular tweak away from being a candle. The result: a population that genuinely does not know whether a steak is good for them. A piece of meat, from an animal that has kept humans alive for the entirety of recorded history, and the average British adult cannot tell you with confidence whether they should eat one. So they give up. They look at the impossible spreadsheet, the macros, the seed oil ratios, the gut microbiome test kit, and conclude, reasonably, that this is not a problem they can solve with a fork. So they ask the doctor for the injection instead. Ozempic. Wegovy. Mounjaro. A generation so thoroughly broken by nuanced dietary advice that they would rather inject a peptide every Sunday for life than work out what to have for lunch. This is the fruit of nuance. A standing prescription. Meanwhile, in a zoo, a lion is fed meat. The zookeeper does not call a panel. Does not commission a thirty-year cohort study. Does not consult the Lion Dietary Guidelines, recently revised by a committee including a representative from the wildebeest farming lobby. The zookeeper looks at the lion's teeth. Looks at its gut. Looks at what it ate for two million years before it ended up in Whipsnade. Concludes the lion should eat meat. The lion eats meat. The lion thrives. Nobody writes a paper. We can feed every animal in every zoo on earth correctly by simply observing what the animal is. We are completely unable to apply the same method to ourselves. Maybe the fix is not more nuance. Maybe it is the opposite. Look at our teeth. Look at our gut. Look at what we ate for two million years before someone invented the cereal aisle. Notice the answer is the same one the zookeeper arrived at in eleven seconds. Eat the meat. Eat the fat. Stop pretending this is harder than it is. Or carry on with the nuance. The injection is ready when you are.
