@LeeHepner Seeing a doctor and getting insurance to pay for medication are incredibly difficult. Insurance and housing vary, although the credit checks and up front fees for housing now are getting ridiculous. If you can pay, booking a flight and taking a pet to the vet are easy.

Maybe I'm overly sensitive bc of my line of work, but why does *every single part* of this economy feel like an obstacle course? Booking a flight, seeing a doctor, getting insurance, finding housing, taking your animal to the vet... Are people just numb to all this?

Why does Jordan, which has tried to stay out of this from the beginning, have to take Palestinians but the US doesn't have to take people from places all around rhe world that it fucked over?

I am sure you are not surprised. Ppl who are dedicated to true DEI have been and will continue to work behind the scene quietly as always. The hypocrisy and racism in academia is unfortunately alarming and these hypocrites occupy our leadership positions at every institutions. So ppl that believe in DEI don’t always have the option to be vocal because they make up the lower part of the hierarchy.

Sure is telling to see scientists up in arms about a few week delay in grant reviews but utterly silent about the cancelling of the diversity initiatives they’ve been trumpeting for a decade.

@biomonika @mbeisen Of course the gov't can shut down communication at any time. Look at what goes on around the world. Look at what the Postal Service did in the lat 1910s. Labor and black periodicals were decimated by censorship. Electronic communication can be throttled in an instant.
