Let the record show that Jeanie Constantinou gave a lecture at the college across the street from my parish in which the thesis was that sexual morality was not a doctrinal issue in the Orthodox Church. Nobody should ever, ever, ever take a single word she says seriously.

@HabemusMalleum Couldn't imagine living the American puritan work ethic. I am more like my European brethren

@mcboss742 Imagine not waking up to go to church at 2 AM for Bridegroom Matins every day like the Typikon says bro you’re cooked.

@HabemusMalleum You just gotta be unemployed for orthodoxy. God wants you to neet.

The reason why parishes hold Bridegroom Matins in the evening is due to convenience. All of the stuff about “flipping time upside down” or whatever is just a post hoc justification. No such thing is mentioned in the rubrics.

@Nektarius_ I tried to make the point that there's a difference between dispensation and objective morality but I was also talking to a woman so I didn't want it to get too emotional.

"Saint Porphyrios is slandered by the meta-patristics that he allowed full liberty within marriage, that he did deal at all with issues of the marital bed and that he only talked of love. But the truth is quite the opposite. The venerable-one was adamant, and did not accept any form of perversion either outside or within marriage. Neither did he accept pursuing and misusing pleasure as an end in itself, contraception and artificial insemination...... On the contrary, he taught, as was revealed in a recent radio show by Metropolitan Neophytos [of Morphou], that a life against nature within marriage essentially abolishes the meaning of marriage. The spouses are captured by the evil one and the children are infected by the spiritual germs of their parents. This is manifested in the course of their lives as a sexual deviation from the normal, e.g. homosexuality and as [other] perverted peculiarities. The children go berserk, and it's the parents' fault....." "He [St. Porphyrios] forbade premarital relations and expressly condemned avoiding childbirth as a grave sin. Within marriage, he allowed only the normal intercourse that leads to conception and nothing else, he did not allow any kind of perversion. He recommended subduing the flesh, fighting hedonism, fasting, bodily hardship, struggle and constant meticulous repentance. He called people to transform passionate urges into divine love through spiritual study, unceasing prayer, Church life and abstinence." Pgs. 129-130, 144-145 from Love in Christ or Meta-Patristic Agapology? Saint Porphyrios Answers by Archimandrite Savvas Agioritis.

There needs to be an Orthodox council in the US to standardize a western rite. The western rite is a beautiful concept it just needs standardization.

@zulu_brah @Gedeon_Optinius I would recommend Fr. Seraphim rose to catechumens, definitely not in the same vein as St. Maximus the Confessor. His soul after death is a good work on contemporary views of death and the afterlife compared to a patristic look at orthodox views.

@Gedeon_Optinius In the same way I think I can’t get into St Maximus the Confessor. Feels like I’ll be way out of my depth.

@FloridaMan7745 @ThePolemikOne I've been told by my friends who live in Wichita that the nearby Western right people would rather go to a Catholic Church than to the Eastern right. They seperate themselves willingly from the eastern rites. Not to mention the practice of flattening the eucharist.

@mcboss742 @tapeworminfect @HosannaHosannaa Never said a bishop approved of Ensign what I was getting at is both have priest(and bishops) that disapprove of their content. Which is the point of similarity in those two

@WanderingBasil @tapeworminfect @HosannaHosannaa My point was that you cant really equate jay dyer in the same vein as ensign. Ill be honest i havent really looked into the modernist vs latinizer debacle but on paper dyer has more credibility so you cant really use him as a hypocritical point against clericalism.
