Presenting my curated list of 10 essential books every Malawian should read. These works should be compulsory in secondary education to combat ignorance and foster intellectual growth. Ensuring our youth are well-read is crucial for a knowledgeable and humble nation. 📚 #Malawi

An @afrobarometer survey says 75 percent of Malawians (3 out every 4) believe in witchcraft. But then again, didn't we say we are a 'God-fearing nation's that starts and end each meeting with a prayer 🤲

45 years today since @bobmarley passed, and his music is still doing what most artists only dream of: staying relevant across generations. Icons trend. Legends endure. #BobMarley #Legend

In the news today, @malawi_police say they have arrested 5 people over missing private parts. Meanwhile, 4 people are DEAD because of WhatsApp group chat rumour. People out here doing citizen's arrest on disappearing genitalia. We can't make this up.

In 2023, I did one of the craziest things in my life. It was late on a Thursday night. I was home alone, drinking slowly, reading, scrolling through my phone, drifting between thoughts and Facebook messages. Around 2AM, a lady messaged me. She could not sleep. Life had cornered her financially, yet she had a business she genuinely believed in. And honestly, it was a brilliant creative concept. It wasn’t just a concept because she was already implementing it and making some money out of it. I asked her why she had not borrowed money to grow her business. She said something that immediately caught my attention: “I hate debts. I have zero debts.” That stood out because most messages in my inbox at the time came from people drowning in loans and financial chaos. She was 28 years old and only needed MK2.5 million to scale up the business. What followed was a long conversation about projections, risks, profits, and ownership. She offered me a 50-50 stake. Maybe it was the alcohol. Maybe it was because when I saw her prior messages to me, they were full of screenshots of her donating to my fundraisers. Indeed, she had supported my fundraisers multiple times before. Or maybe something in me simply believed her. So I asked for her bank account and transferred MK2.5 million to someone I had never met. She thought I was joking until the money reflected in her account. To this day, I still do not fully know why I did it. I remember waking up a few hours later and telling @BrianChumbiJnr. His response was immediate: “Mwaluza imeneyo.” I almost panicked. But before doubt could consume me any further, the lady called. Calmly. Professionally. She had already sent all the documents she promised. Two weeks later, I met her for the first time in Lilongwe. To cut a long story short, It took several months before I made anything out of the business. Since July, 2024, every month I receive money from her. It started with MK57,000 and now I receive not less than MK400,000 every month from that investment. Just an hour ago, I received MK430,000 for the month of April. But more than the money, I gained one of my closest friends. Sometimes life rewards irrational faith and risk!

However, a look behind the numbers reveals that Diesel actually qualified for a 7.56% increase due to global market pressures. The Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF) stepped in to absorb the shock and cushion consumers from the hike. #Malawi #FuelPrices #MERA #MalawiEconomy

Dear @FaMalawi, you’ve been “reigniting the Flames” since 500 BC. At this point we’re waiting for that fire to catch like it’s the Second Coming. Maybe it’s time to admit this is a toxic relationship: all promises, no delivery, just recycled heartbreak every qualifying campaign

There is no malawian artist who really went international. Artists from Malawi can perform in u known bars in Zambia or SA, but thats all. The country and its artists is too poor to fund any international artistic breakthrough

If the outcome of this is simply another workshop with hefty allowances for the same public officials, then this is institutional theatre. Malawians deserve accountability, not taxpayer-funded seminars to teach elected leaders the basics of lawful conduct and human dignity.

@its_stv @HumanRightsMW @malawi_police Dude, I'm from Ndirande, that question does not even arise. But that is why we have institutions and systems in place. If we resort to mob violence for every violation, then what kind of country are we building?

I've seen a video doing rounds on social media of the Mayor of Blantyre Jomo Osman beating up a vendor. I have not verified this video, but should it be genuine, Jomo should be arrested. No one is above the law, not even the Mayor of Blantyre @HumanRightsMW @malawi_police

@MMkhwaye @HumanRightsMW @malawi_police He is not the police. Malawi is a constitutional state, not a playground for inflated egos and extra-judicial theatrics. Rights violations are addressed through lawful institutions. Public order is the mandate of @malawi_police, not politicians acting as judge, jury and enforcer

@mcbrams @HumanRightsMW @malawi_police For all those who can understand chichewa have heard what Jomo was saying but I am Malawian who also understand some verses in the country's national anthem so it's not surprising to read the comments about this post. As for me thieves are thieves regardless genders.
