@kidneycareuk: Nurse of 44 years, and co-leader of an infectious disease study group with actual scientists. Your astounding recommendation to not use masks is frankly at the level of criminal negligence. Meningitis is an airborne pathogen. N95 masks save lives. Fix it, NOW.

🇨🇺🇨🇳 Incredible story. A Chinese girl was filming on a street in Cuba. An old man sitting at her window called out to her. When she approached, the man was in very poor health, but he began to talk to her and told her that he had studied in China and served in the Chinese Air Force, and showed her the documents that proved it. The girl went to the Chinese Embassy and told them about him, and they went to see him. Afterwards, a delegation from the Chinese Air Force came and paid tribute to him.

Glasgow’s Mary Barbour (1875–1958) saw rents rocket in working-class homes during the First World War while the men were away fighting. The landlords and factors’ reply? Pay up or be evicted anyway. Mary would not sit still. She formed ‘Mrs Barbour’s Army’, organising women to resist evictions by blowing whistles to summon help, physically blocking bailiffs and confronting the rent collectors, even bringing shipyard workers out in support. To see working women and children exploited while their men defended the country is a phenomenon which is impossible to explain. Yet their defiance led to the Rent Restriction Act 1915 protecting tenants. Scottish women have never accepted being sidelined. We never will. #WomenOfScotland #SexBasedRights Image @WWWheesht Govan 2023

Stuart Rose says we cant afford to spend on NHS and welfare My sister worked for M&S..when Rose took over...he cut staff bonuses, scrapped staff getting discount food and slashed staff pensions...then he got a huge bonus for "turning M&S around" 🤔 #r4today

. @kmckenna63 has written something that doesn’t just comment on assisted dying, it exposes the whole pattern we are living through. The rising drug deaths we’ve learned to live with. The rejection of the Right to Recovery. The dismissal of Ash Regan’s bill. The voices of disabled people being overridden. The quiet realities of coercion shaped by poverty, dependency and domestic abuse. Even the pressure placed on institutions and conscience. None of this sits in isolation. This is one moral landscape. And it is drifting. A society becoming more permissive where it should be protective, and more absent where it should be present. A culture where those with security and voice shape the terms, while those without them live with the consequences. A slow, dangerous numbness where the most serious decisions no longer land with the weight they should. I support every single claim he makes because he has done something rare. He has joined the dots and shown us not just a set of decisions, but the direction of travel. This is not about one bill. It is about who we protect, who we neglect, and who we are prepared to give up on. Read it in full. Then sit with what it says about the kind of society we are becoming. Don't let's kid ourselves on that the Assisted Dying debate last night showcased Holyrood at its best. It was nothing of the sort: my column in @heraldscotland heraldscotland.com/politics/viewp…

@mccafferty2 I agree but we’re still in a better position than those down south, I’ll have a look online tomorrow at the dual carer aspect. Thanks Linda

I thought myself it would have been the carers assessment(s) it's the biggest farce going in certain areas in regards to LA's stating that unpaid carers receive an Adult Carers Support Plan in their own right re Carers Assessments . x.com/MikeIStevens/s…
Mike Stevens@MikeIStevens

@mccafferty2 The final two, carer’s assessment was a waste of time as it didn’t tell us anything we didn’t know or offer any help. The guardianship stuff is admin and bureaucracy gone mad, lots of record keeping them someone checks to make sure you’ve followed the rules

@MikeIStevens I took part in engagement sessions & did tell them the two lump sums was, just as you say " came at good point of the year " but I don't know if other carers taking part voiced the same - I will miss they wee lump sums, for sure .

@mccafferty2 It’ll be like that here too, the two lump sums seemed to come at good points in the year. Was there any consultation with recipients?

@MikeIStevens I much preferred the two payments a year instead of the £10 a week , it was like a wee bonus lump sum for me , now the £10 will just go straight into the weekly household budget ☹️

@MikeIStevens I was asking Qs today about the extra support on a group in regards to dual unpaid carers . I was told that I can apply online to SSS (easy application) I was told if you care for second or subsequent people for 20hrs you get an additional £10, your hours can overlap 1/2

@MikeIStevens Hmmmm, trying to fathom out the amount of £39 less due to a carers assessment being in place ?

@mccafferty2 They said the cost of respite would be £39 per night more expensive if we didn’t do the carer’s assessment

@mccafferty2 We got the draft assessments which had lots of mistakes, got in touch with the lady who did them to ask ‘what next?’ and 4 months later we still await a reply. SW said we had to do it as we get money off the boys’ respite 🤷
