🧵Since it is becoming hard to track, here is a thread of the simply astounding weather records planet Earth has started shattering in recent weeks: 1. Dramatic flood events have begun striking various countries around the world simultaneously this week. twitter.com/Rishusharma26/…

Long field day on the #mosquitofire but hats off to @FireWeatherLab & @UNRScience students for a successful day of radar/lidar plume obs. It’s not easy: finding locations, overcoming adversities, and walking away with a pile of data that will drive the science forward. #CalFIDE

Excited to finally share the major output of my PhD with the world! This is a Python package which accepts high-resolution forest point clouds as input and fully automatically (and without parameter tuning) turns them into detailed measurements. youtu.be/rej5Bu57AqM

@jramireztsyl @technosylva Hey Joaquin! Did the resolution of data from the L1 give you enough point density to show differences in the treatments in terms of height vs. density metrics?

The fire season so far in northern Australia. Some sophisticated burning work conducted early in the dry season, combining indigenous knowledge, science, and technology. A few bigger fires sparking up now under challenging fire weather conditions. ihttp://firenorth.org.au

Woo! Bit of good news for the feed. Glad to have colleagues like Sam, and brilliant he can represent forest fire science via the Fulbright. Strong work across disciplines, agencies and borders!!

Stoked to share some exciting news that I’ve been awarded a Fulbright Post-Doc Scholarship! @AustAmFulbright I am looking forward to investigating next-gen fuel inputs for improved fire simulations with @usfs_rmrs in 2022! #fire #lidar Congrats to all the other Fulbrighters!🎉

@elisethoma5 Hey Elise! It’s certainly pretty soggy out (much like Morrison’s leadership). There’s good grass fire potential but generally it’ll be a slow start in most places with soil/fuel moisture very high. Likely not much of a bushfire season, but that’s not speaking for northern Aus.

Great example of the transition from ash-filled to precipitating #pyroCb on the #BootlegFire. Note the transition from low (blues) to high (reds) correlation coefficient as the plume generates quasi-spherical rain drops. The northern fringe goes first, then the southern fringe.

The lack of rain this season has severely impacted our chaparral live fuel moistures. Wow, never seen April fuels look so... dry. No new growth anywhere in this Chamise. April is climatologically the highest live FMC of the season. Very Scary! #CAwx #firedanger

Congrats to Kathy Gosby on receiving accreditation as a Level 3 Incident Controller, the first woman to do this in Victoria’s emergency service history. This is testament to her dedication over many years of working in public land management, fire suppression and planned burning.
