Ultimately, lots and lots of action doesn’t translate into strategic change. Instead, the game of smacking the gophers continues, producing a never-ending stream of small disconnected innovations that only deliver short term impact, if they can scale at all.

Reactionary Ideas (Whack-a-Mole) – There is a popular arcade game where players are given a big rubber mallet, which they use to smack little gophers that randomly poke their head up. It’s a game that rewards quick reflexes. See a gopher, whack it with the mallet.
