@mce0011 @Lazgar_lockman We are arguing two sides of the same coin. If they weren't profitable they never would have been able to do what they did. However because they did, they weren't profitable. It's a case of growing too big too fast and not being smart enough to recognize it until it was too late.

@QuarterGamer @poly_chef If you understood the scope of my definition, then yes. The system that delivers water to your home is "AI" in the sense that it does something for you, and alters the medium based on what you want. People are focused on "artificial intelligence" vs. function.

also fuck ai. i’m proudly, and forever will be, an ai free artist/creator. ai is a huge part in the overall equation that lead to the layoffs at Bungie and the shuttering of Destiny. I didn’t need it then, and I won’t need it in the future. that’s one of my hard red lines.

Marathon is doing so awful in Season 2 that its daily peaks are already WORSE than the absolute worst days at the end of Season 1! Marathon is already struggling to hit 10K, and is missing it consistently now. Its worst day in S1 was 11.279. That number is better than the last EIGHT DAYS for Marathon. Season 2 is less than a month old. It's that bad right now for this game. Want to hear a joke? Marathon.

@TheCartelDel Yes, the coming years will see a reduction in the workforce, and the increase in AI tool use. Whether smaller teams using increasingly sophisticated AI tools will result in better optimization for older and older hardware is unknonw.

The next generation of consoles will cause more bloodshed. The cost of game development has never gone down when a new console arises, it always just adds complexity, cost, and dev time, but are the games truly more enjoyable? Debatable. Limitations are where the best magic happens when making a game, and less of it causes waste. When costs go up, you get less winners and more layoffs. I genuinely, with all my heart, wished the PS6 and Xbox Project Helix never steps foot into this decade.

It should be the opposite. Games that were created without any AI should be "Certified 100% Human Created" And command a much higher price. And people will easily filter for such games. Maybe with a special brand. Like "Organic" "Humanic" or something

@stmatomato Where is the "sci-fi" aspect of this game? All I've seen, so far, is Chinese Medieval fantasy. Having a Dash instead of a Roll for Dodge, and no stamina management is the way forward for sure.

@poly_chef Sure, from your narrower definition of "AI", but I have a broader view of what "AI" is, and it is why I'm most ok with its use. AI grew from a desire to automate more of the process from A to Z, with Gen AI wanting to skip it all. I see Blender as a basic AI.

@mce0011 you’re simply wrong. you brush up on the definition of ai and how it differs from regular computer programs that have been the standard for the past 50 years. the command prompt on your computer is not ai unless you personally integrate ai into it.

@PaladinGam32810 @Lazgar_lockman The studio was not profitable, this should be clear. I agree that it was mismanaged, at every level, not just the very top that so many people want to blame. Everything you list as evidence of it being profitable were the reasons it was not.

It was profitable enough to expand the company, the campus, sustain multiple incubation projects and add a dozen or more cars to Pete's garage. It was profitable, they just mishandled the revenue it generated
