@JP_Biz And not reduce the debt mountain or invest in services? What about the rarely talked about (in the UK) lever used by successive Irish governments - reduce or maintain very low corporation taxes and government revenues actually increase? Very counter factual for a Labour govt.

What was the counterfactual Reeves budget? Reverse the last cut in employees NI instead of increase on employers? Greater relaxation of fiscal rules? Freeze NHS spending?

Big Chris Murphy, a warrior of a teammate, a very talented footballer and a friendly, big-hearted man - gone suddenly, a terrible loss to all. Deepest condolences to his three children and the Murphy and McCartan clans. RIP

@jmcconville710 @StPaulsGAC Yes, reading the article and looking at the pictures again, that’s from the 1988 final (with Cavan in white shorts). That was a goal in two finals in a row from the big man.

@jmcconville710 @StPaulsGAC Yes, Chris and I played midfield in the Ulster Championship u21 final win over Down in 1989 (when Chris scored the winning goal) but my memory is he scored that with his trusty left peg, not his hands - I think that pic is maybe from the year before - the 1988 final v Cavan?

@StPaulsGAC Awful news. What a teammate and man Chris was, we had some huge days on the pitch together, he was a brave warrior who did everything for his teammates. And a friendly, generous and warm character off the pitch. RIP big Chris.

@JP_Biz So, almost 11% of profits (at current levels) annually taken up by this increase - arguably that’s acceptable for a very large business (with healthy margins) like Tesco but what about smaller margin businesses here? These increases add serious risk to their business.

You need to have your wits about you for this story as the £1bn headline is the projected impact over four years but nowhere do you get projected profit over four years. (Pre tax profits was £2.3bn in year to Feb 24).
