I want to be honest with you guys This last week has been a whirlwind of depression and sadness I couldn’t escape, a deep depression that I haven’t had since 2017. I went in such a dark head space and nothing/no one could pull me out of it. Music, my wife, and my daughter is practically the only thing that saved me from cutting to the final end. Personal self-doubt weighing on me. The juggle and weight of being the best as a funeral director, husband, father, friend, etc-the weight got to be so much. And all those characteristics & roles of me are what I love to do. Politics and seeing how ugly our country is becoming. Because of my profession as a funeral director, it can become unbearable being around death all the time & dealing with sadness. But it’s a profession I love because I help people through the most difficult time in their lives. I shut social media off, barely talked to anyone, and hid myself into music. I hate that I feel that I’m not enough sometimes and drown my self image to somewhere horrible. I hate that I push my loved ones away. I hate that the world is so ugly and unkind and it makes a good man bad. I’m not naive that this world is perfect and to fake when I’m not happy at times. Im not naive enough to know that my life being gone wouldn’t affect anyone, only temporarily. Sometimes in my head it’s a raging war: Of the self doubt, who I was, who I am, and who I want to be. I’m so tired of this world not opening up about their feelings. Everyone hiding their emotions and that depression only makes us feel defected, when so many people go through it and we’re not defected because of it. I wish more people would open up about depression, because it’s not talked about enough and all we ever feel is alone, when going through it. I’m not sure what else to say, I can’t fake being happy and it’s incredibly hard when you’re in a whirlwind of a dark hole. I know I got a ton of messages in the last few days and I apologize for not getting back. I literally turned off social media and even thought about leaving it for good. For those that judge, don’t understand depression, & have no idea what it’s like: keep your judgements to yourselves. After a few counseling sessions, music, & my girls this week; my head space is a lot clearer and I feel so much better. I wanted to post this because I want those to know who suffer through depression that you’re not alone and hope in someway this inspires at least one person to know they’re not alone and that’s it’s ok to reach out for help. And I know I have a lot to live for: My wife, baby, and to make the world around me a better place. Life is beautiful.
