@EddieComeaux @UCLALawReview @DrUJayakumar The racial disparities within Ivy League admissions, white athletes advantage, and especially ALDC applicants… completely unacceptable. Also discussion of "country club" sports highlights cultural capital and racial privilege in the NCAA. Very disappointing to see this.

@Nareenclute @abhornUCRedu The Supreme Court's shift on race in admissions might significantly impact college sports, reshaping the landscape of intercollegiate athletics. This change could have implications for both diversity and fairness in team composition. #ucr50 @TA_ED50

"Race-neutral" admissions are hypocritical since they give preference of white. Putting students from other racial/ethnic backgrounds at a disadvantage; for this reason, affirmative action was implemented to provide these students with equal opportunity. #ucr50 @TA_ED50

@msmit220 @TA_ED50 Agreed! The NCAA is not run in a way to benefit the athlete. For example late night games leave athletes less likely to go to class the next morning, but is good for revenue. Even though this is “amateur” sports! #ucr50 @TA_ED50

(#7) Collegiate athletes praised for their hard work on the court/field. But what about in the classroom? If we had external rewards like we had for their performance in sport, for academics I bet performance in the classroom would increase! What do you think?#ucr50 @TA_ED50

@Nareenclute1 @abhornUCRedu I agree! Title IX has helped women in sport, but there sure is a long way to go. Womens athletics are still heavily under funded. I think by fundraising and more media attention around women’s games, we would be able to level that gap! #ucr50 @TA_ED50

(#6) Years after the implementation of Title IX, women are at a minority in many fields. Specifically in athletics only 28% of the budget is spent on women’s sports. Keeping female athletics at a deficit. What do you think could be done to increase the budget? #ucr50 @TA_ED50

@elizabeths63749 @abhornUCRedu Implementing workshops for racial diversity around campus can be a way to improve experience. Also for athletics assessments of team, department and campus climates can help encourage inclusion and sense of belonging, which is huge for student experience. #ucr50 @TA_ED50

(#5) Minority Athletes, can stereotypically be labelled as “inferior academically”, or “dumb jock”. This can cause underachievement despite potential, by low standards established by those around them. Strategies to end these stereotypes need to be implemented. #ucr50 @TA_ED50

@Nareenclute1 @abhornUCRedu I agree! Student atheletes dedicate so much time to their sport not only for themselves but for the school they represent. Often their academics can fall short as a result, it’s not fair that they should sacrifice one for the other. #ucr50 @TA_ED50

(#4) Athletes can a rough time socializing, due to lack of free time. These stereotypes or “athlete- micro aggressions” make it even more difficult for athletes to integrate into the campus community. We must support athletes beyond their sport/academics. #ucr50 @TA_ED50

(#3) The lifestyle of a student-athlete is extremely demanding; Required to take the same amount of credits as a regular student and train to 20 hours a week. Not only is the commitment time consuming; the fatigue, stress and lack of social life are factors too. #ucr50 @TA_ED50

(#2) Colleges/Universities use money from student tuition to fund athletics. Arguably, the money from student tuitions should be put into education not athletics considering the student athlete population is so small compared to the whole student body. #ucr50

(#1) Revenue wise the NCAA rules are inconsistent. Despite the fact that collegiate athletics bring in billions for the institution, athletes frequently have their ability to earn money restricted. There is unequal treatment of student athletes in the NCAA. #ucr50
