"If I were emperor of the world, I would put the pedal to the floor on energy efficiency and conservation for the next decade". Dr Steven Chu, Nobel Prize Winner stated in 2007. 13 years later it is largely untouched in Irish climate policy or planning.

Neil Oliver: "There was no pandemic." "What we ended up with was a pandemic of testing, with the misapplication of PCR tests that were never designed, according to their designer, to be used as diagnostic tools." "They simply took an opportunity to do something that they were planning to do anyway, which was to use a pandemic to seize control of people's freedom, and their money—the biggest transfer of wealth in history." "If we had a pandemic of anything, it was a pandemic of propaganda, a pandemic of lies and a pandemic of testing." Credit: @thecoastguy @TuckerCarlson

@SadhbhO @IrishTimes @guardian As a vegetarian of over 20 years, I can say that that's a load of bollocks! Ultra-processed food is bad for you, end of. Meat alternatives are ultra-processed food.

@whittledaway Don't get too despondent. Slowly, like with cars, there will be a migration to electric aircraft, with short haul the initial market, then long range electric/hydrogen aircraft over the next 20 years. Many in development now. The era of the conventional airliner will peak 2030.

The pollution from flying is much worse than is usually reported. Plus, it's the only sector that's planning on *increasing* emissions in the coming decades! rte.ie/radio/radio1/c…

@SadhbhO @IrishTimes Has anyone proved a link between Co2 emissions and climate change, I thought carbon was good after all were are all made of it.

@Richdublin @whittledaway No single country can affect the climate on its own. It requires all countries to reduce GHG emissions as quickly and justly as possible, especially high emitting, wealthy countries like Ireland.

@whittledaway If every person in Ireland had a zero carbon footprint what would the effects be on the climate?

all the arguments saying "the planes fly whether there are people on them or not" are designed, like all climate inactivist tropes, to tell people that their personal actions don't matter, and that individuals have no power, which is entirely false
Flight Free UK@FlightFreeUK

@Fergaltierney @whittledaway The aviation industry works on supply and demand. No demand = no supply. One person's decision not to fly won't ground that particular plane, but long term, as fewer people fly, fewer planes will take off.

@SPhone568 @NicholasDCarter There is no suggestion that they stop producing food, merely that they produce it more sustainably. They can increase food production and comply with these measures.

€700M just approved for Dutch farmers to stop their livestock farming in priority areas and rewild This is a smart way forward to support farmers to drawdown carbon & restore biodiversity that financially (& intrinsically) is worth more in the long run. ec.europa.eu/commission/pre…

@darraghwo @think_or_swim VW strongly advise against charging more than 80% to maximise battery life. This reduces day to day range but for long journeys you can charge to 100%.

Anyone with even a cursory understanding of electric vehicles or batteries would realise the arguments set out in this letter are baseless & bogus. Yet there it is, in black and white. Maybe real reason behind falling EV sales is disinformation parroted through media?

@darraghwo @think_or_swim How does 2% p.a end up with a battery life of 10 years? The battery will last as long as the car albeit with a reduced range in later years.

@think_or_swim Hi John, which specific points do you disagree with? His points about battery degradation are largely in line with this Zurich Insurance blog, e.g. 2 % per year. zurich.ie/blog/how-long-….

Latest electricity bill €56 including €46 standing charge and including EV charging. Incredible combination of PV and EV. Don’t charge EV from PV, charge at night rate and export PV as much as possible. Better for your pocket and GHG emissions.

@mclauli @whittledaway @SocDems @HollyCairnsTD Then why are there so many ongoing excess deaths in highly vaccinated countries ? The more % vaccinated a population the greater the increase in extra deaths above average, month after month still happening? Countries with low Vax rates have low or negligible excess deaths now.

Got electricity bill yesterday: 65€ for 2 months. Incredible considering that it includes 2 months of motoring with an EV. Hard to beat energy efficiency and solar PV.

We're over the cliff imo. Even if all humans stopped emitting, which would cause billions in deaths, the melting of permafrost is releasing more gases. wildfires are also not going to subside anytime soon which means more gases and less ability for the planet to absorb CO2. We're snowballing towards catastrophe and the only solution is carbon capture which isn't feasable yet for the amount we need to capture.

"Human-induced warming has been increasing at a rate that is unprecedented in the instrumental record”. The #climate cliff-edge is just ahead. This would be a great time to hit the brakes, but nah, that’ll upset too many vested interests. rte.ie/news/2024/0605…
