What a crazy Wednesday evening at the Clayton Winehouse! A tasting of spectacular Old World wines from VINTUS Importers. Highlights were the Guigal “La La’s”, La Fleur Petrus, Le Macchiole Messorio, & a surprise: the new Guigal La Reynarde. Great stuff! Cheers!!

Today we had some Balik salmon with bergamot again! combined with a delicious Blanc de Blancs Champagne. 2009 is great vintage. Love it! ==> Elegant and complex, the nose opens with scents of hazelnut and citrus pulp (tangerine, yuzu) and preserved pear. With ventilation, pure and crystalline aromas (raw butter and fresh honey) emerge, given by the calcareous soil of the house's terroir. For the main course, a porcini mushroom risotto with Parmesan. For the red wine I decided on 2 red wines. A mature Merlot from Ticino, which already had beautiful tertiary aromas. Matches the mushrooms. As an alternative, a Sangiovese from Tuscany. Today, Skrei cod found its way into a South Indian curry, served with buckwheat naan bread. This delicious meal is accompanied by a Viognier from the Bolgheri region. Viognier is always delicious! An excellent combination. I'm thrilled! A radiant golden yellow color. Dried apricots, lychee, but also acacia blossoms and some wildflowers. For you wine lovers, very curious here, if you could try one wine you haven’t yet tried, what would it be? For me… Chateau Rayas. I just can’t get by the amount of $$$ for a Rhône which generally I see as a value, at least compared to Burgundy. Also, anyone tried Rayas, worth it?
