They thought they would finish us off. Under the guise of a so-called uprising,
(1) murdering members of the police force, (2) deteriorating the law and order situation of the country, and (3) creating extreme chaos.
By making the environment extremely turbid, a conspiracy was underway to kill us indiscriminately. In such unstable times, we had to remain in the background for strategic reasons. But we are not dead, we are here.
On August 5, we relinquished power. On that very day, the assassins attacked 450 police stations and brutally killed 15 police members. Countless other police members were injured. Ansar and BGB members were also attacked.
I learned from social media (although it was not possible to verify the truth) that a pregnant female police member was also killed at Enayetpur police station in Sirajganj.
On August 5 alone, at least 119 people were killed, including students, teachers, journalists, cultural activists, working people, pedestrians, leaders and workers of Bangladesh Awami League, police members, and minorities. Many deaths went unreported. Journalists and police officers estimate that the number of deaths exceeded 400 in the first 48 hours after Awami League left power.
Artists, writers, and academics have been attacked.
Israt Chowdhury Dola, a Chhatra League leader, was abducted from her home in Feni three days ago by a group of miscreants, raped, and then killed - when information with a photo resembling Dola was circulated on Facebook, it created a sensation throughout the district.
The bodies of girls who have been raped and murdered are now seen floating in water.
Hundreds of people's homes have been vandalized and set on fire.
We had condemned the killings of Abu Sayeed and others during the quota movement on July 16, expressed sorrow, and a judicial inquiry was arranged. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had met with family members of those who were killed, including Abu Sayeed, and promised to stand by them. Arrangements were being made to bring foreign experts to assist the judicial inquiry commission to investigate each incident of casualty. The Education Minister had visited the home of Mir Mugdho, who was killed during the movement, and met with family members.
Among the unfortunate deaths that occurred during the quota movement, there were also leaders and workers of Awami League and police members. But the blame for all deaths has been broadly placed on our government.
Then who is responsible for the brutal killings that have taken place since August 5?
Why isn't the procession of death stopping even from July to August?
Sheikh Hasina did not want to remain in power over so many corpses, so she relinquished power. But those who wanted to come to power over so many corpses are now part of the power, so why are they creating more corpses?
It seems more grief has descended on the nation's life in this mournful month of August.
Who broke the sculptures of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman this August? Who set fire to Dhanmondi 32? Not only Bangabandhu's sculptures, but also various sculptures of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, Rabindranath Tagore, and the Liberation War and freedom fighters have been broken. The statue of Begum Rokeya, the pioneer of women's awakening, has been stained with black paint using obscene language. The country is now in a lawless state, everything has gone into the possession of miscreants, where no one is safe.
Insha'Allah, we were, we are, we will be. The people of this country will protect this independence gained in exchange for the sacrifice of 30 lakh martyrs.
All the deaths that have occurred from July until now must be investigated. Each killer must be identified through a transparent and proper investigation. I want justice for all these killings and punishment for all responsible individuals.
I pay humble respects to the memory of all martyrs including Abu Sayeed and Mir Mugdho and pray for the forgiveness of their souls.
