@qikipedia There’s another lovely Wilde quote about America never having been discovered, merely detected.

@slbsn Not an Everton fan but was gladdened by this announcement. Could it work? Attendance will surely be higher than where they play now. Potential for the stadium to host concerts etc?

Thanks to a single tweet by @typofoto ages ago, I still can’t see the name Emma Raducanu without hearing it set to the tune of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

@DaleVince We spent a few days in France recently and were shocked at the price of food. But it occurred to us that maybe French farmers are more powerful than uk farmers and/or better treated by supermarkets

It’s so ironic, that supermarkets, who have long been accused of screwing British farmers with their aggressive focus on ever lower prices, should take this opportunity to offer words of support. That’s all it is a PR opportunity. Supermarkets can do more to help British farmers than a repeal of the closing of this tax loophole will do. After all, we all pay Inheritance Tax, farmers do not need to be a special case, the tax can be avoided simply by passing on land and property to family before death. Whereas the commercial abuse of farmers by supermarkets is a much tougher nut to crack. I call on supermarkets to put their money where their warm words are - pay farmers a decent rate for the food they produce. standard.co.uk/news/politics/…

Just watched this on the recommend of @DrAlexNoonan - and I recommend it too. A Xmas film that’s emotional but not sickly, and beautifully shot. (Released last year but don’t worry, it’s as if it comes from the Before Times.)

Josko Gvardiol on settling in at #ManCity: “I had @mateokovacic8 with me and I'd say he’s like my father, always there for me, takes me everywhere. Everywhere they go, he just says come with us because I live alone, I’m single, my parents live in Croatia but they come often..."

@DaleVince @UKLabour @Keir_Starmer Dale, some time ago I saw clips of you talking about your green gas mills before a select committee. Did anything come of that? Could they be part of Great British Energy?

Big news today is that the Great British Energy company is front and centre in @UKLabour's coming manifesto. It’s 1 of the 6 pledges unveiled today by @Keir_Starmer.  I’ve been advocating the public ownership of the new green energy sources that we need to build - for a bunch of years now. This is exactly that - and it makes so much more sense than allowing foreign owned companies and pension funds to extract the financial benefits of our green transition - from our economy.

@StevenMcinerney Not sure I’d go that far! But there will be a cohort of young adults who are more wise to this stuff. My credulous generation will take longer to cotton on.

Critical thinking skills are in the bin. Astounds me on a daily basis the very obviously false stuff that people spout because they saw it on the internet. Feels essential that schools should be adapting to this in the smartphone era - kids need to be taught how to process and verify things they see online.

Media literacy really has gone out the window. Got shown a TikTok video that made a massively verifiably untrue statement but got millions of views, hundreds of thousands of likes and comments, and people just believe it because they saw it on video and so it must be trustworthy
