The former vinegar factory "De Arabier" in #Middelburg (Zeeland), built in 1900-1901 in Art Nouveau style, replaced the burned-down "De Pijp" factory. It operated as a vinegar factory until around 1953, then as a lemonade factory. The remaining part has a rectangular layout with a basement, ground floor, and attic under a truncated hipped roof. The front facade, made of red brick with a natural stone plinth, features a horseshoe-shaped entrance, green glazed brick bands, and decorations including a relief of an Arab on horseback with the text "Dit is de Arabier".

Meteors from the Kappa Cygnid meteor shower are captured in this time-lapse composite skyscape. The minor meteor shower, with a radiant not far from its eponymous star Kappa Cygni, peaks in mid-August, almost at the same time as the much better-known and better-observed Perseid meteor shower. But, seen to have a peak rate of only about 3 meteors per hour, Kappa Cygnids are vastly outnumbered by the more popular, prolific Perseid shower's meteors that emanate from the heroic constellation Perseus. To capture dozens of Kappa Cygnids, this long term astro-imaging project compiled meteors in exposures selected from over 51 August nights during the years 2012 through 2024. Most of the exposures with identified Kappa Cygnid meteors were made in August 2021, a high point of the shower's known 7-year activity cycle. All twelve years worth of Kappa Cygnids are registered against a base sea and night skyscape of the Milky Way above Elafonisi Beach, Crete, Greece, also recorded in August of 2021.

Have you ever seen a fireball? In astronomy, a fireball is a very bright meteor -- one at least as bright as Venus and possibly brighter than even a full Moon. Fireballs are rare -- if you see one you are likely to remember it for your whole life. Physically, a fireball is a small rock that originated from an asteroid or comet that typically leaves a fading smoke trail of gas and dust as it shoots through the Earth's atmosphere. It is unlikely that any single large ground strike occurred -- much of the rock likely vaporized as it broke up into many small pieces. The featured picture was captured last week from a deadwood beach in Cape San Blas, Florida, USA.

@Noabotty1 no! be careful with codeine it's not safe, it's a serious morphine-like addiction that develops relatively quickly and outcomes vary case by case, it's much more risky than benzo, but i'd recommend neither, perhaps pregabalin (lyrica) might help with generalised anxiety ds. (GAD)
English

I told my wife that if she doesn’t steal more codeine from work to help me relax and sleep I will start smoking weed. She said so I should start smoking weed because that will be better for me than codeine… but the problem with that is that it makes me want to vomit so what should I do instead?!

Childhood Trauma May Rewire Brain for Lifelong Aggression
Aggression linked to childhood trauma is more than a behavioral issue—it’s rooted in lasting changes to brain circuitry.
New research explores how early adversity rewires connections between brain regions responsible for memory, attention, and emotional regulation.
A central focus is the thalamic nucleus reuniens, which links the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus, and plays a key role in impulsivity and decision-making.
Disruptions in this network, observed in mouse models, lead to increased impulsive aggression and cognitive impairment.
Using CRISPR, optogenetics, and real-time brain recordings, researchers aim to pinpoint how trauma alters this circuit.
The ultimate goal is to develop new therapies that target these pathways to reduce trauma-related aggression.

Years ago I went out with a very-wealthy Jewish girl from Boston who was big in the art scene in NYC. Met her at some bar in Brooklyn where bike couriers hang out; proceeded to spend a month straight with her.
She did coke 24/7, took me to VIP rooms at tons of clubs, and seemed to have both infinite money and a near-zero grasp on time or reality. She swore she'd marry me, and she literally prayed we'd get pregnant. We went to "Members Only" in Brooklyn constantly, where I was exposed to some of the weirdest, gayest, richest, most drug-addled people I'd ever seen. I was a filthy hobo at the time, wearing my coal-dust-covered Carhartt overalls (which an elderly gay man from Italy offered me $1000 for; I passed).
Finally, she gave me a gigantic golden ring from India with a massive emerald in it. The ring was in the shape of a snake, and I wore it. She said: "Go to Cottage Grove, Oregon and meet me there -- I have a house there and we'll get married there." So I did it: I hitchhiked from NYC to Oregon over the course of a month or so.
When I got to Cottage Grove, I called her and she had no idea who I was, but asked if I was the one who had her ring. I said yes. She asked me to come to Brooklyn, and six months later, I hitchhiked back there and met up with her.
When I went to her place, she looked distressed and tired. She asked me my name and whether we ever had sex before. Of course I said we did for more than a month straight, and that she said she wanted to get pregnant and marry me. She had no memory of that whatsoever.
So she told me the story: Several months before we'd met, she'd been out at a club and met a guy. They were in the Uber headed to his apartment when he said "wait, why don't we go to my other house in the Caribbean?" She said yes, and they went to JFK to fly to Barbados. There, he took her phone away, imprisoned her there, and raped her daily for several months before her family hired a PI to rescue her.
Once back in the USA, she claimed to have been in a complete fugue state for months on end, in a drug-fueled haze. She had no memory of anything she did during that period, including spending an insane month with me doing the all-night every-night VIP club thing.
I gave her her ring back and left, utterly darkened and weirded out to the core. I really was never the same after this.

It’s technically possible, but you’d have to charge crazy management fees to pay the fixed costs of legal compliance, accounting, prime brokerage, etc.
