In December 2019, the Tow Center for Digital Journalism reported on a network of 450 sites posing as local or business news publications designed to promote partisan talking points. Media Cloud turned this into a collection of sources that you can search: buff.ly/41G3I8r.

A 2024 study on the digital news landscape of prescription drugs in Latin America cited Media Cloud, finding that over 62% of posts lacked neutrality. Promotional content overshadowed transparent, balanced information about drugs' risks and benefits. #news buff.ly/4gubx5o

Compare coverage on a topic across partisanship or across the world by clicking the three dots at the top of your query.

Troubleshooting unexpected results: if unrelated terms result from your search, you can add these to your query. Related articles will appear in “Sample Articles,” allowing you to pinpoint why these terms appear. You can negate them from your query using the AND NOT syntax.

Conducting proximity searches: Using Advanced Mode, the query “weather hot”~15 will find articles where “weather” and “hot” are within 15 words of each other. You can include as many words as desired in the quotation marks of this search.

Sample stories from a query search of "COP29" showed that far-left coverage on the event largely focused on economics. Based on this sample, far-right coverage framed the event as a political scheme or as ineffective. Both partisan groups mention Trump in their coverage. #news

A COP29 query search of six English-speaking countries reveals that Kenya focused the greatest percentage of its news media on the event, followed by South Africa. The U.S. published the most stories on COP29, but the event made up a small portion of its news stories. #COP29

Coverage of projections for the presidential election was examined using the Media Cloud search tool. The day before election night, the far right peaked in its attention to election projections, while coverage of this topic by other partisan groups dipped. #electionday2024

More information about your sources is available! Now, metadata is displayed on a source’s page. You can navigate here by starting at the Directory page, picking a collection and then clicking on a source.

Now, after entering a query, you can use the Attention Over Time feature to view your results by day, week or month. This allows you to see how much your media collection published about your topic of interest.
