Fantastic weekend of robot competitions at #PiWars 2024 this weekend. We won one first place in the advanced category and very pleased with an overall 5 place. Many thanks to all at @PiWarsRobotics and all the judges and helpers that make this event such an amazing experience 👍

@petterssonsoftw It just knows that the goal is in the centre of the 16x16 maze and then tracks where it has traveled from the starting corner. In coordinates, it starts at (0,0) and ends once it reaches (7,7) to (8,8). The challenge is to accurately track the movements so it knows where it is

@mediablip How does the robot know that it is at the goal point? Is there any other sensor signal there?

@PeterOnion @tnmoc Looks like they came from different batches of pcbs with lighter/darker colour - does this indicate how many replacements have been made over the years?

The two core stores in @TNMOC's Elliott 803 each have 40 planes of 64x64 cores to hold 4096 words of 39 bits plus one parity check bit. Each store has a panel of 40 sense amplifiers which folds down to give access to the bias adjustment on each amplifier (via a small hole).

One of the best robots. 👾 It's from one of the best all-time movies. Interstellar! 🧑🏼‍🚀 Do you remember TARS? A developer called Charles Diaz has created a fully functional TARS replica using a @Raspberry_Pi. This isn't just a static model - it can move forward and turn on sides. At the heart of this stellar creation is a Raspberry Pi 3 B+. The robot's graceful movements come courtesy of 4 micro servo motors and 5 metal gear servos. Bluetooth remote control ensures smooth operation. All code and CAD files are freely available on Hackster.io! 🧱 Build it guys, build it, break it, and build it again: lnkd.in/dAGrVpyc P.S. The music makes me feel nostalgic... ~~~ ♻️ RT to help 1 robot find a new workplace.

Our robot absolutely loving the Temple of Doom treadmill obstacle at #PiWars. Hit it at full speed and kept going straight without any problems 😄

So, here's a lovely little spinning LIDAR - at a fantastic price (£10!). 35mm square, uses a BLDC motor (smooth), and nice specs. It's happily scanning my front room, so they do work - making this a steal IMO. ebay.co.uk/itm/3951598553…

@drfootleg @ZodiusInfuser @orionrobots The foam blocks on the Temple of Doom also scuppered many of the wider mechanum-wheeled robots too. They basically need to keep all 4 wheels in contact with the ground to be effective, so defeated by simple obstacles
