Events in the Senate tonight showed the weight and responsibility of being a “journalist.” It is something that is earned — consistently, tirelessly. You do not become a journalist simply by calling yourself one. Pagpupugay sa mga mamamahayag at malayang pamamahayag 💖

This has gone far too long just to protect a fugitive corrupt murderer. Hindi na siya nakakatawa. The amount of chaos, institutional embarrassment, and blatant abuse of power happening just to shield one family is beyond disgusting. Imagine dragging an entire government into dysfunction while innocent people, media, and the public are forced to watch this circus unfold in real time. PH government is an entire circus for a long time already but this is beyond words.

Why would the senators call NBI to secure them first, when the PNP is right outside the Senate building? According to our reporter, the PNP was not even allowed to go in when shots were heard.

Senate media beat proving that in the hardest of times it would always be the journalists to show up on the frontlines. Not vloggers, not influencers, not online commentators. Nothing but the highest respect to our hardworking colleagues.

Praying for all the journalists risking their lives tonight just so the public can see the truth of what’s happening in the Senate. There is no substitute for a free press. No alternative to people willing to stand in the middle of chaos so the country can witness the truth in real time.

Some personal news: I filed my last story with the Inquirer last Feb. 14 and today, finally, is the last day in my nine-year journey with the country's paper of record. All this started because the Inquirer trusted me even as a sophomore student. I'm so, so humbled and grateful.

Dismissed DPWH engineer Henry Alcantara has not recanted his earlier testimonies regarding the flood control scandal, says his legal counsel Emil Joven. Alcantara would fulfill his obligations to continue testifying as part of the prerequisites for the witness protection program.
