Chinese Tourist Beaten to Death Inside Unlicensed Pattaya Night Club, 10 Arrested and Venue Shut Down A 39-year-old Chinese tourist, Chang Yi Cheng, died after a group assault inside Vegas Exclusive Club in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung. Rescue workers reached him just after 11pm on May 6 and found him unconscious with facial injuries, a swollen left eye, a torn lip, and bruising across his body. CPR did not save him. Staff told police Chang had been drinking and was playing snooker when he got upset over not finding hand chalk. He then climbed onto a VIP table occupied by another group of Chinese customers, which set off the fight. Suspects fled during the chaos before police arrived. Six employees were taken in for questioning, and investigators say they suspect both staff and the VIP group took part in the assault. Administrative officials checked the venue's paperwork and found it had no entertainment license. By later that day Pattaya's police chief had ordered the club shut down for good and 10 people had been arrested. Investigators are now chasing the nominee network behind the venue, looking at who actually owned and financed the operation.

Thai Monks, Now Charged With Trafficking In Kedah Thailand has had a year of monk scandals. The Wat Rai Khing abbot accused of moving 847 million baht in temple donations to gambling sites. The blackmail ring that brought down six senior monks with sex tapes. The Lopburi AIDS-monk donation fraud, potentially tens of billions of baht, defrocked in August. Now add child trafficking across the Malaysian border. Kedah state police arrested two Thai monks on April 7 and charged them with trafficking boys ages 7 to 15 across the border to solicit donations in Malaysia and Singapore. Malaysian police had watched the lead monk for nearly four years. Both have been formally disrobed. 17 of the children are home. Seven are still stuck in Kedah because they have no passports. The youngest is five. His family went to the Pavena Foundation today asking for help getting him back. The grandparents had trusted the monk for years through merit-making at their local temple. He told them the missing passport wouldn’t be a problem. He had a way across.
