Kris Kringle arrived on Boxing Day in what can only be described as a heartbreaking state. Riddled with mange, no hair, skin and bone, and absolutely terrified of humans, it was clear he has known only hardship in his short time on this earth so far. Since then, Kris has been in Quarantine 5, right next to Louise’s office. For days he has stayed tightly curled beneath his blankets, only lifting his head to eat. With temperatures now dropping to –2°C tonight and possibly –4°C tomorrow, we’ve made the decision to move him into recovery, where it’s warm, safe, and cosy. Right now, Kris doesn’t want to interact with us at all. He’s so frightened that he won’t even look at us — but that’s okay. He doesn’t need to trust us yet. He just needs time. It won’t take long for Kris to learn that he will never be hurt again, that no one here will raise a hand to him, and that from now on, he will only ever be shown kindness, patience, and love. Welcome to safety, Kris. You’re warm now — and you’re home 💜

She’s like my aunt at 90. But my aunt looks better no surgeries. She dances every weekend. Does her dance exercise classes during the week. Drinks wine or rum every day and loves her food and shes had 2 kids. She has a herbal cocktail she takes every morning and had been doing so for decades. She was always frowned upon for going out all the time but kept partying regardless. She worked damn hard too. Discipline works, enjoying life works.

What part of their dark conscience allows them to look into their dog’s eyes, call him with a gentle voice, and say “let’s go for a ride,” knowing he will follow with a wagging tail full of trust and joy. The dog climbs in, believing it is just another moment of love. He has no idea that the home he cherished, the ball he chased, and the yard where he felt safe are now gone forever. Then he is tied and left behind, abandoned to his fate, staring in confusion and heartbreak, unable to understand why the one he trusted most has walked away. And I ask myself, what kind of human being is capable of such betrayal against a soul that only knew how to love unconditionally? 💔
