A child living in a household that can't afford to keep the house warm has a 13.6% chance of reaching criteria for a mental health problem compared to 6% otherwise. If family hasn't the money for sufficient food, it's 11.8% compared to 4.4%. Poverty is a mental health issue.

@robintransition Haven't tried it, would love to. I lived in Finland for a while in 2022 and they are aiming for food security, producing most of their own. I ate a lot of broad beans in the uni canteen, used to add protein to plant-based meals. Inspiring.

Scientists have recently determined that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain—unless it is done with play, in which case, it takes between 10 and 20 repetitions! ~ Dr. Karyn Purvis

@earlyplay “This was indeed said by Dr. Purvis. Sadly, before she gave us the reference she....passed away. We have not been able to locate this, so the source went to the grave with Dr. Purvis.”~Karen Purvis Institute of Child Development...reckon some new neuroscience will be along soon.

@caroline_bcn3 @GeorgeMonbiot Please don't have elderberry syrup for covid - it's bad advice - it is to do with the cytokine storms. A medical herbalist should be able to back this up.

I get plenty of hate, and that's OK. It's my job to tell people things they don't want to hear: extreme reactions are an occupational hazard. But I've seldom received as much as I'm getting at the moment, for stating that I'm ill with covid again. And that's not OK.

My new article is out! “The Process of #Ecoanxiety and #EcologicalGrief: A Narrative Review and A New Proposal”, open access at Sustainability, mdpi.com/2071-1050/14/2…. Aim: a model which is both simple and nuanced enough. Includes both chronological and thematic aspects. (1/8)

Leah Foster, new mother & Uni of Derby student, has been suspended for taking her newborn to class. What message does this send to students w caring responsibilities (usually women)? Why not offer hybrid learning options instead of suggesting she defer? bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…

A part of my experience here in Finland, learning how they govern equality of access to childcare and education, and how that is changed by market forces. A great PhD defence!

This is such a powerful video… So simple So much sense The Tories know this too But they also know that it’s the millionaires & billionaires who donate to them that keep them in power …and the sad truth is, that’s who they really work for.

It's a simple idea: We demand the govt scrap the energy price rises and deliver affordable energy for all. We will build a million pledges and by Oct 1st if the govt and energy companies fail to act we will cancel our direct debits. Read more here: dontpay.uk
