Nobody anywhere has ever logged into their work laptop for the first time and said "Oh nice! Microsoft Teams!" As a desk-jockeying professional, you are sure to have noticed that actually, everyone hates Teams and everyone hates Outlook. You might have come to the reasonable conclusion that, despite the fact that the user side sucks raw fart, the fact that the Microsoft SaaS family is so popular must mean it has some killer qualities on some other end of the vast machine. I guess it integrates well with the Microsoft Ecosystem [editor's note: readers are cautioned not to utter those words in front of a mirror after sundown]. Maybe it's really stable. I'll now let you in on a secret from an industry vet. Nobody likes Microsoft Teams. The users hate it; you already know this. The IT admins hate it. The people who build on top of it hate it. The people who have to build interop with it hate it. This family of products serves absolutely no-one. It's broken as shit at every single level. Since 2021 or so, if I find out a potential employer is an MS Teams user, I withdraw my candidacy instantly. Here's why. First, it means they don't care about their engineers' quality-of-life. Ok, welcome to the tech industry, what else is new. Here's the more important reason. The only way a company can come to the decision to purchase Microsoft Teams is if a Decision Maker met a Microsoft sales kid and thought "I like the cut of this guy's jib. He looks like the kind of guy who's left his asset-tagged HP laptop in the east wing men's restroom at the Climate Pledge Arena cause he got a little distracted snorting coke off his asset-tagged HP laptop in the east wing men's restroom at the Climate Pledge Arena.
