It would take me an hour or two to convert my stocks into gold. A week at most if I wanted to avoid rushed transfer fees and avoid getting ripped off when buying gold. Unfortunately my bank has strict daily atm withdrawal limit so it would take me at least two months to turn it into cash, probably more. It would definitely make my taxes hell though.

Americans have this pervasive belief that far, far too many people have it far too good without "deserving" it, so signs that their economy is in a complete freefall collapse are met with cheers. "Finally!" They say, "taken down a peg!"
